Control Room
SmartTask and Video Receiving
Centre Ltd (VRC) are launching
a managed control room
service.
The outsourced service will
use VRC’s remote video
response centre in Yate, near
Bristol, to monitor check calls and respond to any alerts. SmartTask
has integrated its rostering and proof of attendance software with
VRC’s monitoring platform so raised alerts are responded to within
180 seconds, the firms say. A VRC operative will now follow up
any missed shifts, check calls or patrols, firstly contacting the guard
and, in case of an issue, a designated duty manager. Paul Ridden,
CEO of SmartTask says: “For many smaller security firms, it is
simply not viable to maintain an out-of-hours control room
in-house to monitor the safety of staff and customer properties.”
Alarm Kit
Dahua’s new alarm kits,
DHI-ART-ARC5402A-GW-06-A35
and DHI-ART-ARC5402A-GW-10-
A35-C35, are for use in shops,
apartments and other homes.
Based on radio frequency of
433/868/915MHz, Airfly is a
private wireless communication
technology of Dahua’s, giving
two-way communication. It offers 128-bit AES fully encrypted
wireless communication with dynamic key. The kit also comes with
4.3 inch TFT screen (480 by 272 resolution), and ARC5402A-GW
video alarm control panel, that’s the ‘brain’ of the alarm. It has
functions such as alarm information collection, alarm output and
linkage control, PSTN alarm reporting, alarm SMS, audio message,
video recording and playback. The product supports up to 32 wireless
zones, two wired zones, eight remote controls, four wireless sirens,
one wired siren and one wired PGM output; Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11),
PSTN, GSM and TCP/IP RFID reader, that allows you to arm or
disarm the alarm without password; and the back-up battery (3.7V/
1900mAh, Li-ion).
Radar Partner
UK CCTV manufacturer 360 Vision
Technology has partnered with Navtech
Radar.
As the firms say, radar is often thought to
be the preserve of only airports and ports,
but they say radar can be used across a
variety of applications. Instead of sound,
radar transmits a pulse of radio energy, so
in a similar way that echolocations works,
radar is able to determine the position
and range of an object by measuring the
time it takes for the radio energy to be
reflected and returned. A radar receiver is
a sensitive piece of measuring equipment
that detects target objects with an element
of environmental ‘noise’ from any area of coverage. To reduce
false alarms, radar software can apply a threshold that a signal must
exceed before it’s considered to be a valid target. With conventional
movement sensors and object detectors such as fence lines, a light has
to enter a detector unit or a beam blocked for the sensor to register
activity. Radar emits a signal at regular intervals and is always asking
‘what’s out there?’ Radar can track multiple objects, up to 40 in the
case of 360 Vision’s Predator Radar PTZ camera.
Intrusion Detector
OPTEX Europe, the sensor
manufacturer, has launched a new version
of its VX Shield (VXS), with a new
housing design. The outdoor intrusion
detector, which provides 12m x 90-degree
detection coverage, now includes a
rotation lock for easier opening or closing
of the cover. Sensor adjustment
components are also identified in blue, to
make it obvious which parts allow you to
manipulate the sensor detection area. The
makers say this makes the sensor easier to
adjust. A spirit level has also been incorporated, and an automatic
walk test mode starts upon closing the cover. The new VX Shield
has four models: two PIRs (VXS_AM and VXS-RAM) and two
dual-tech (VXS-DAM and VXS-DRAM), hard-wired or wireless.
Analysing detection patterns and site data improves immunity
against changes in temperature or moving trees, the makers say.
Satellite Monitor
A lone worker product company
has added a satellite device to its
range.
StaySafe is now integrated with
the Garmin inReach satellite
device that uses Iridium’s satellite
network. Location tracking
allows remote workers even on
oceans to be monitored from the
StaySafe Hub, while an SOS panic allows them to signal for help in
an emergency. If a panic alert is triggered on the device, StaySafe will
notify a monitor at once, for an organisation to take action. The device
also helps lone workers to navigate in extremely remote areas, with
features including a compass, weather reports, satellite mapping and
a digital ‘breadcrumb’. A long battery life ensures users are reliably
protected, lasting up to 100 hours in tracking mode or 30 days in
power saving mode. inReach is described as waterproof, buoyant and
impact-resistant. A device can be worn on a lanyard or mounted to a
vehicle.
DNA Anti-Theft
Stand-alone burglar alarms are
not enough, says the company
behind a new DNA anti-theft
product. UK-based SeekerDNA
recently launched the forensic
mist MistGuard, which make use
of a UV-DNA impregnated
misting system that can be
manually activated or linked to
an existing alarm. SeekerDNA
director Steve Laugharne says:
“The days of the stand-alone burglar alarm system are numbered
because owners of premises targeted by burglars are realising they are
just not enough.” MistGuard is described as an intruder deterrent and
marker using traceable synthetic DNA and UV (ultraviolet) markers,
designed to work with alarms to cover large areas, such as warehouses
and large retail units housing high value goods. Steve adds: “When
activated, an ultra-fine mist is released which marks both thieves and
property and irrefutably links perpetrators to the crime – in cases
where the use of this synthetic DNA evidence has been available, it
has led to a one hundred per cent conviction rate. Alarms alert
property owners and police about a break-in, CCTV captures the
burglars on film but this is just not enough to deter criminals.”
