Paper Animated - PG13 Paper animation is a unique form of art that
includes cutout animation as a form of stop-motion animation. This specific
genre uses flat characters, props and backgrounds cut from materials such as
paper, card, stiff fabric or photographs. Tension and emotion is created through
every folded sheet of paper, carefully captured through individual frames placed
together to tell a powerful and interesting story.
1:00PM SCREENING
Classic & Traditional Animated - PG13 Animation has a rich history and is the act of
creating the illusion of movement through still images. This method actually began
hundreds of years ago. After a number of pioneers began creating animated shorts in the early
20th century (1914’s Gertie the Dinosaur being a notable example), the very first feature-length
animation created using traditional methods was entitled “El Apóstol.” Traditional animation is a
technique where each frame is drawn by hand. This technique was the dominant form of animation
in cinema until the advent of computer animation. The collections of shorts in this segment
will take you back in time to the beginning of this amazing and unique visual art form.
2:00PM SCREENING
Hand Painted Animated - PG13.In this technique, slow drying paints are used on
a glass canvas, which allows the animator to manipulate the art and photograph them
simultaneously. Sometimes turpentine is used in the paints, which makes it easier for the
animator to work on the paintings. It’s a tough and laborious task being that you have
to paint on a glass canvas. After much blending in post production, this form is a true
aesthetic treat.
moved between the frames. When you play back the sequence of images rapidly, it
creates the illusion of movement. The short animated films in this segment take you
into dramatic stories from around the world in a realistic looking fantasy of hand-crafted
dolls and sets that will inspire endless thought and conversation.
films have historically been neutral in the story. However, as the world evolves, more
people have felt the need to express their stories to reach a larger audience young and
old. The LGBT animated shorts are particularly special since they reach a younger audience who are still coping with
coming out as Gay, Lesbian, Bi or Transgender. Relatively new are these LGBT animated short stories that inspire a
new generation to feel like they can be themselves and find acceptance even in schools and a society where bullying
