At Home
with Natalie Kolter
With the holidays approaching, we took some time to talk with interior designer
Natalie Kolter, of My Vintage Porch about decorating her home for
the holidays.
Thanksgiving is approaching... what is your favorite room to decorate
for this season and why?
I’m not sure that I have a favorite room to decorate for Thanksgiving. I
usually incorporate Thanksgiving decorations together with my other Fall
decor. I like to add little touches of Fall throughout my home. I had a lot of
fun decorating my living room space this year, using dried eucalyptus from
a near by tree. I love the crisp Fall feel that it gives.
Tablescapes are so popular at Thanksgiving... what will you be doing for
yours?
I used a mixuture of {faux}Turkeys and pumpkins for my Thanksgiving
tablescape this year. I found these turkeys at a local thrift store. It is a passion
of mine to encourage others that it is possible to decorate on a budget,
so into my space they came. Most of my table decor is from a thrift store. I
love the thrill of the hunt and the originality it brings to my spaces.
What tips do you have for our readers about decorating for the season?
I would say that sometimes less is more. A bowl of pumpkins here or a
bundle of wheat there, that’s the way I like to decorate for Fall. A little bit of
Fall here and there goes a long way to spread warmth throughout the home
for the holiday season. I love to “go big” sometimes too and that usually
happens more for me around the Christmas holiday.
