Bridge of Weir
Primary School
The first few months have whizzed
by and with the October holiday
already behind us we’ve got time
now to draw breath and review our
first term. We were delighted to
welcome our new Head Teacher Mrs
Susan Bell who took up her post in
August this year. Mrs Bell has been
Depute Head Teacher at Bridge of Weir
Primary for 13 years so is a familiar face to
us all. She knows the pupils, parents and staff of the school very well and
has ambitious plans to build on all that has been achieved over the years
to ensure that every child at Bridge of Weir Primary School has the best
possible educational experience.
Our new Primary Ones have settled in extremely well thanks in no small part
to their amazing P7 buddies who have carried out their duties with impressive
commitment. The care and kindness which they have shown towards our
younger pupils is heart warming and has been much appreciated by parents
too.
This year all classes will have a focus on Art and Technology with lessons
delivered by Mrs Devine and Mr Lowit. The standard of art work being
produced is outstanding and pupils are developing skills in portraiture,
printing, painting and design. Technology allows children to co-operate with
their peers, problem solve, work in teams and think creatively and projects so
far have included P5 designing their own fidget spinners and P7 constructing
periscopes.
In Primary 3 pharaohs, pyramids and Canopic jars have been the order of
the day as the children have been exploring the mysteries of ancient Egypt
whilst Primary 2 have been designing their own torcs and round houses as
part of their Celts topic. A few classes have already been out of school on
educational trips - P7 enjoyed their visit to Whitelee Wind Farm, Primary 5
were very impressed when they visited the Bannockburn Centre and Primary
6 are all up to speed with Scottish history after their visit to Linlithgow Palace.
History has also been the focus for Primary 4 who have been finding out
about the Vikings.
In the nursery the children having been enjoying learning about what goes
on “Under the Sea” and they had great fun during Maths Week Scotland
working with numbers, patterns, shapes and measuring. There’s a whole lot
of learning going on at Bridge of Weir Primary!
Mobile Phone
Recycling
Thanks to everyone who collected
old mobile phones for us as part of
Recycle Week. 77 were collected
by our participating primary
schools alone! So a special
thanks to Bridge of Weir (Eco
Committee members pictured),
Fordbank, Houston, Howwood,
Kilbarchan, Lochwinnoch and
St Fillan’s Primary Schools and
to Lochwinnoch and Kilbarchan
Community Nurseries. These
phones, along with the ones
handed into the LEAP offices,
have been passed to St Vincent’s
Hospice and will be sent to be
refurbished/recycled, preventing
the precious metals, rare earth
elements and other recyclable
parts they contain from ending
up in landfill and raising much
needed funds for St Vincent’s in
the process! If you have still to
hand in phones, the good news
is St Vincent’s Hospice have
decided to continue the collection,
so they can be handed into their
shops, or to a LEAP office.
What a great time we have had at toddlers
recently. We enjoyed lots of great costumes on
show at our Halloween party along with all the
usual fun and playing with our friends.
A little reminder that toddlers will not be on
Thursday 30th November due to the St Andrews
day holiday.
We welcome all children age between 0-4 years
old, together with their parents, grandparents or
carers to join in with the games, crafts and play
on offer every Thursday. The children can enjoy
playing, making friends and of course snack time
while the adults can catch up with a cuppa.
We meet between 9.30 - 11.30am, so come
along when you are ready to the West Hall, Main
Street, Houston PA67EL (next to the Carrick
Centre)
We look forward to meeting you.
