advancing, allowing data to be transferred
around the more easily.
Subscription based services such as those
listed above are now more commonplace, thus
paving the way for a subscription/recurring
revenue based model being used within video
and access control surveillance.
David Davies – DVS
SaaS is an ever growing topic
of interest. We have seen
many forms of this being
launched into the security
industry lately which include
CCTV surveillance, access,
intruder and even ANPR.
I personally really like this idea of “pay
monthly” modelling. Most of us are very custom
to paying for services monthly and have been
doing so without complaint for many years in
the form of mobile phone services, insurance,
bills and most of us get paid monthly (making
us SaaS almost..)
So an Integrator or end user can identify with
this kind of payment plan and put budgets in
place to accommodate this. I think it will open up
more avenues in the CCTV and access sectors,
where footage can be saved in the cloud solution
off site and secure and the customer can pay
less upfront and outlay the rest of the cost over a
twelve month period. If the customer then feels
they don’t have the need for this anymore they
can simply choose to not pay any more and then
the service will be halted.
I also believe it will open up more
possibilities within the industry leading to more
integration “in the cloud” and allows so much
flexibility to the customer that traditional
systems cannot offer. It also offers the ability to
store data securely off site, which makes the
option of secure datacentre storage quite
appealing to certain customers that don’t buy
into the idea of having locally placed CCTV data
that can be stolen.
If you look at it another way, it also offers
SaaS vendors the ability to upsell on their
product where functions and features are
required to be made available and extra income
can then be made.
