Attack Testing Zone expanded
for IFSEC 2018 event
The organisers of IFSEC have announced that in
2018 the event will once again partner BRE
Global/LPCB to host the Attack Testing Zone
which will demonstrate how the products and
solutions that installers are recommending are
fit for purpose to safeguard people and property.
Following the successful introduction of the
new demonstration zone in 2017, the Attack
Testing Zone will be expanded and moved to a
prominent position in the Borders &
Infrastructure area of IFSEC 2018, providing
dramatic demonstrations of the capabilities of
security solutions. Technicians from BRE Global/
LPCB will actively demonstrate the effectiveness
of a range of physical security solutions being
Research highlights weak link in
domestic security
Almost every front door has one, but new
research shows letterboxes are all too often
proving to be a weak link in making homes,
cars and families safe and secure. UAP has
discovered the growing security and safety
concerns centred around letterboxes with a
nationwide survey of homeowners and analysis
of figures from fire services.
The survey of 2,000 homeowners across the
UK found three in ten are putting the security of
their house and car at risk by leaving their keys
too close to the front door. The nationwide poll
discovered that 31 per cent of people leave
their home and car keys within 5 metres of the
letterbox. If keys are within that distance,
criminals are able to use implements such as
fishing rods or aerials to hook keys and then
enter the property or steal vehicles.
Meanwhile, research obtained through
Freedom of Information requests to fire
services has found a growing problem of
taken to task in real time scenarios. All of the
products on display are LPCB Red Book
approved and will have met a range of UK and
European standards.
Richard Flint, Physical Security Technical and
Business Development Manager at BRE Global
says: “BRE Global is delighted to once again
partner with IFSEC 2018 to continue with the
Attack Testing Zone. We were hugely impressed
at the volumes and quality of the visiting
audience in 2017 and we made sure the IFSEC
team expanded and relocated the Zone for 2018-
such was the level of interest. It’s a unique
opportunity for security professionals to see
leading products being tested in real time and
showcases the levels of security and protection
these solutions can provide.”
Gerry Dunphy, Brand Director, IFSEC & Firex
International says: “The Attack Testing Zone is a
great example of where real time
demonstrations capture the imagination of the
visiting audience and it adds to whole IFSEC
experience.”
IFSEC International 2018 will take place
between 19th and 21st June at London’s ExCeL
venue and is co-located with Firex International,
Safety & Health Expo and the Facilities Show.
fireworks being posted through letterboxes.
Over the past three years, there has been a 26
per cent increase in recorded incidents,
according to data from 25 fire services across
England. Across these 25 fire services, there
were 111 incidents across the three years
between 2014 and 2016 with numbers rising
from 32 in 2014 to 43 in 2016.
UAP’s Barry Halpin says many don’t think
about the security risks of letterboxes:
“Letterboxes are usually an open gateway to
our properties – unlocked, unsecured and
easily accessible, so it is vital homeowners
consider whether theirs has the latest
technology to stop people exploiting the
security loophole to put our families and
property at risk. Too many of us don’t think
about whether our home and car keys can be
fished through the letterbox and the growing
number of incidents of fireworks being posted
into homes demonstrates why having
letterboxes that are designed to prevent fishing
and fire are important.”
