7. Teaching a Skill.
Plan how you are going to teach the skill that you provided a breakdown for in the
previous question.
Note: for this question you are going to need to plan, and then say what actually
happened.
So you will need to provide two dates – the first date is when you fill this question in with
what you plan, and the second date is when you fill this question in with what actually
happened.
Example: Chaining
Date: 01.05.15
Forward or Backward Chaining: Backward
I plan to teach this skill using this chaining because… the most important thing for H is that he arrives at the
Printers. If he knows that somehow we will always make sure that he arrives at the Printers then he will
cope better with all the new stuff that comes before it.
Date: 02.06.15
The chaining I used was: mostly backward, but a bit of forward.
Give feedback on how well it worked for the person and why: When I started to do the teaching, I found out
that H didn’t know that he could catch any bus. He catches the same buses at the same place each week,
but didn’t know how to transfer that skill to another bus route. So before we could go any further I had to
teach him how to catch a bus on another route. This was the forward chaining.
After that, we did backward chaining as planned. I supported him to get on the correct bus and then
followed in my car. He got off at the incorrect stop a couple of times, but I picked him up and we always
ended up at the Printers. His mistakes slowly decreased as we sorted out landmarks and took photographs
for him to have on his phone for reference so he pretty much knew where he was as the bus travelled
along. He is now able to catch a bus to the Printers without significant support.
The Task is:
Planned Environment
Date:
I plan to do this teaching in this environment (or these environments):
Actual Environment
Date:
The learning actually happened here:
Existing Knowledge
Date:
I think that the person already knows how to do these things:
