FEATURED ARTIST
ERIN CARPENTER
" Objects reflect ourselves. My work
captures the paradoxical delicacy and
strength of porcelain. The play of positive
and negative space draws the viewer deep
into the piece; when viewed from certain
angles, the carving overlaps and creates
additional depth and pattern. The conversation
between strength
and delicacy, tension
and depth, imperfection
and beauty
all resonate with
my own humanity."
Welcome to the MMoCA Art & Gift Fair, a
fundraiser for the Madison Museum of
Contemporary Art. Enjoy shopping, fun moments
and inspiration. With some 70 juried artists with
splendid works of art; Gourmet Gallery vendors
with sweet and savory treats; specialty vendors
offering scented candles, body products and
restaurant gift cards; as well as live music and
dance performances, we’re sure this event will
be a favorite tradition for years to come.
As you stroll through MMoCA and the Overture
Center for the Arts, stop and take a special
holiday selfie in the State Street Gallery. You’ll
find the Silent Auction in the Overture Board
Room on the lower level. And bid on works from
artists exhibiting at the fair. Also on the lower
level, in the popular Rediscovered Treasures &
Art Sale, find a treasure-trove of donated art,
jewelry, small antiques, decorative art, books,
and other “pre-loved” items.
We wish to thank jurors Brigitte Boucher, an
artist and copywriter for the artfulhome.com;
Kay Rashka, a scientist by day and a silversmith
and jewelry art metals instructor by night; and
Madison-based oil painter Ann Rutecki.
We owe a great debt of gratitude to MMoCA
Volunteers Board members and President,
Amy Paulios; Silent Auction Chair, Tami Dodge;
Reception Chair, Valerie Kazamias; and our
faithful team of Rediscovered Treasures & Art
Sale volunteers, including Chairs Nancy Doll
and Connie Grogan, and Dianne Gomez and
Ashley Roberts. We also give wholehearted
thanks to MMoCA Events Interns, Matt Jacob
and Nina Stemwedel, and photographer Nicholas
Sadowski. We also cheer and thank the hundreds
of volunteers who help make this event possible
each year.
The success of 2017 MMoCA Art & Gift Fair can
be attributed to generous support from our
sponsors Custer Plumb Financial Services, Fresco
Rooftop Restaurant, and Think Ink & Design, with
additional media support from Isthmus, Magic
98, Wisconsin Public Radio, and Yelp. We are
also grateful to the Penguin Colony–generous
individual supporters of the event. Proceeds
from the fair benefit MMoCA’s free exhibitions
and education programs.
Thank you for your support and attendance!
of hundreds of people who cheerfully donate their
time and skills.
Please help us thank these generous sponsors:
