Buhari to Ndigbo: My appointments
based on merit, track record

Muhammadu Buhari,
Tuesday night, in Abakaliki
explained that many
appointees in his
administration were
appointed purely on merit
and proven track records.
Speaking at a state dinner
organised in his honour,
President Buhari
emphasised that he always
considered what was best for
the country in his decisions.
He said: “Some of the
people holding high
positions in the government,
like my ministers, will tell you
that I didn’t know them from
Adam. I just came across
their names from the records
and I worked with the
records. I thank God that I
have a very good team.”
The president commended
Governor David Umahi for his
developmental strides in the
state, saying: “The absolute
commitment of the governor
to his position is very
remarkable and I am very
impressed.”
Buhari, while expressing
gratitude to God and the
people of Ebonyi State for
recognising his modest
contributions to the country,
described Nigeria as a great
country with incredible
resources and highly talented
people.
MASSOB faults
Buhari’s ‘campaign’
promises to Ndigbo
But in a contrary
development, Movement
for the Actualization of
Sovereign State of Biafra,
MASSOB, has described
Buhari‘s promises to Ndigbo
at Abakaliki as campaign
promises, aimed at fooling the
people once again.
MASSOB also said it
amounted to insult for the
President to have said his
visit to Igboland in two years
of his administration was a
proof that he loved South-
East people.
The group noted that for
Buhari to describe Biafra
agitation as a senseless and
laughable propaganda
shows how uncomfortable his
government is and exposed
his level of understanding.
MASSOB National
Director for Publicity,
Comrade Samuel Edeson,
said it was ironical for
President Buhari to ask
leaders to lead by example,
“yet he, Mr. President, has
shown us the example by
displaying hatred with
passion against Ndigbo.
“It’s like Mr. President did
not understand the tolerance
and acceptance of diversity
when the Fulani herdsmen
are killing, destroying
people’s farmlands and
burning houses. Mr.
President merely called them
criminals.
“The Arewa youths gave
quit notice to Ndigbo, they
were addressed as youths.
But when we said that we are
no longer interested in the

political entity called Nigeria,
we became terrorists. Soldiers
invaded our land killing our
people and destroying our
property and Mr. President
called it tolerance and
acceptance.”
MASSOB said that
President Buhari’s promise to
build Enyimba/Nnewi auto
park was nothing but political
propaganda, aimed at
deceiving Biafrans.
“Mr. President also said
that he stands on inçlusivity
and will not leave any section
or citizens behind. That is
called a very grand lie from
Mr. President.
“MASSOB wants to make
it clear that construction of
second Niger bridge,
reconstruction of all the roads
in ala Igbo (Igboland) cannot
change our desire for Biafra
restoration."

candidate, Dr. Tony Nwoye,
have welcomed the
defection of Chief
Chukwuemeka Ojukwu
Jnr. to the APC, saying it is
an indictment on the poor
governance of the
incumbent governor.
The stakeholders under
the canopy of Anambra East/
West Political Forum in a
statement in Awka,
yesterday, said the defection
was also reflective of the
good deeds of Nwoye and
the bad governance of
Obiano.
The statement issued by
the coordinator, Chief Peter
Anekwe said:
“What happened at
today’s campaign rally of
the APC, best reflects the
mind of our people on our
two sons contesting this
weekend’s governorship
election and the significance
cannot be lost on us.
“Two of our sons are
contesting for the election
and we dare say that the
incumbent has done very
badly and it is shown by the
spate of defections from his
party, APGA, to other parties
and notably All Progressives
Congress, APC.
“That the son of our eternal
hero who bears the torch of
the Ojukwu family has left
APGA to join the APC is
indicative of the fact that
everyone, everywhere in
Anambra State has seen the
failures of our son, Obiano".

a factional national
chairman of APGA, Chief
Victor Ike Oye, where he
described Ojukwu as a
prodigal son of APGA.
“That Emeka Ojukwu jnr

matter to APGA. It is not a
big deal. He is insignificant.
He is a prodigal son of
APGA for now. After the
election on Saturday and
APC fails, he will come back
to APGA and we will accept
him back."
Oye also confirmed that the
security detail of the state
governor, Chief Willie
Obiano that was withdrawn
three days ago had been
restored.

In a related development,
former Vice Chairman,
Senate Committee on the
Federal Capital Territory,
FCT, Senator Domingo
Obende, has described
APC governorship
candidate, Nwoye, as the
best choice for the state.
Speaking with Vanguard,
Obende, who noted that
Nwoye will transform the
state, said he has what it
takes to deliver on the
promises for his people,
especially against the
backdrop of where he is
coming from as a grassroots
person, who understands
the needs of the people.
He scored the APGA
government in Anambra
State low in performance,
blaming Governor Obiano
for failing to address the
state’s pressing needs.
Labour decries worsening

the alarm over the worsening
living conditions of workers
and other Nigerians, and
urged the Federal
Government to constitute a
panel to negotiate a new
national minimum wage
without further delay.

National Executive Council,
NEC, meeting of the
association, its President,
Bobboi Kaigama, lamented
that “the massive
devaluation of the naira has
made nonsense of the take
home pay of an average
Nigerian worker, particularly
the civil servants.”

campaigns against violence

NNEWI, the second
largest industrial and
commercial city in Anambra
State, was agog, yesterday,
as a Non Governmental
Organisation, NGO, United
for Zero Election Violence,
UZV, stormed the city to
preach non-violence ahead
of the November 18, 2017
governorship election.
Co-Founder of the NGO,
Chief Chima Onwuzulike,
led other members of the
NGO at a rally, which
started with a road show,
and lasted for over four
hours and rounded off at
the popular Nkwo triangle
in Nnewi.
Speaking at the Nkwo
triangle, Onwuzulike said
the rally was the Anambra
South Senatorial District
emoluments of workers can
no longer take them to the
bus stop let alone taking them
home. The current
minimum wage of N18,000
came into force in March,
2014, meaning that it is long
overdue for re-negotiation.
"It is worthy of note that the
