Kia Orana tatou katoatoa.
Every year, secondary school students in Auckland
prepare themselves for the biggest cultural event of
their life. This year it was on Saturday 18 March.
Polyfest is huge, like the 'American
Music Awards' and 'The Voice’,
but from our tiny slice of Mangere
College it is purely 'Polyfest Hard'.
2017 sure was 'Mangere College
Year' at the Cook Islands Stage.
After many hardout ‘tellings off’, we
would like to say a big Meitaki Maata
to all these people that helped us
walk away with victory as the Cook
Islands Stage Winners of Polyfest
2017. Meitaki Maata, for best Cook
Islands teacher-in-charge, Tai
Uamaki, our head tutors, Tai Temanu
aka Mr Kua Kite and his wife Anna-
Marie Taruia-Temanu, along with our
many co-tutors, composers, costume
team and cultural extraordinaires
Jay Kaokao, Inangaro Tupuna, Niva
Maroroa, Mama Kura Taruia, Pai
Fatz Toru, Ben Toru, June Teara-
Charlie, Sabel Tupuna, Valerie
Taruia-Pora, Moetetau Temanu
and Temanu Temanu Jnr, Tearetoa
Tupuna, Keani Pora, Tiree Howarth,
Agnes Daniel, Dante Daniel, Ganesh
Takairangi, Maevarau Tuaputa; and
Meitaki Maata to our many helpers,
supporters and parents.
Many good things come to those
who believe. Better things come to
those who are patient.
The champions of this year, ASB
Polyfest Champions and 1st Overall,
give glory back to our Mana Atua,
our Heavenly Father who stood
by our sides to guide us and grant
us wisdom and grace us with
the knowledge and strength of a
Tumutoa Tama Kama Atu a Warrior
and a Vaine Toa a Maiden Warrior.
We are all honoured and very
humbled by this great achievement
and look forward to what 2018 will
have in store for us.
