Girls 1st XI Football The Girls Football 1st XI had a challenging but enjoyable season. The team came up against strong opposition in all of our games, and although we had a win-less season, remained competitive throughout the entire season and were certainly not shown to be out of our depth. The girls were committed and arrived at practices and games with positive attitudes. They showed excellent team work both on and off the field and represented Mangere College with pride. Leylane Rako was our stand-out striker, often seen dribbling through defenders with ease. Special mention also goes to Anna Piira who had an excellent season as our goal-keeper with some outstanding saves. -Asariah Potini 'The girls were committed and arrived at practices and games with positive attitudes.' Boys 1st XI Football Mangere College 1st XV Boys soccer team played in the Senior Manukau B Division despite having many boys from the junior school. We had a great season only losing two games in our round-robin and putting together a seven-game winning streak. We came third in our pool and went on to compete for the Plate. We played three tough games and won them. This meant we were the senior Manukau B plate winners! Yeah! As always there was lots of fun and laughter with this team and I would like to thank all the boys for their hard work, commitment and great sportsmanship throughout the season. Special mention to Reza Akhlaqi who helped out with coaching and came to all of our games to support the boys and even refereed a few times. I would also like to recognise Taua who was not only a senior player but also our captain and took on responsibility for some of the coaching and managing of the team. -Mike Darragh '...we were the senior Manukau B plate winners!'
