Green Corner Sustainability of Bioenergy Supply Chains Workshop A very successful inter-task workshop was held in Gothenburg in May 2017 on sustainability of bioenergy supply chain Vesna Kučan Polak Sustainability of liquid and solid biofuels production is under continued scrutiny, including topics such as iLUC, food vs. fuel, forest carbon accounting and sustainable forest management principles Sustainability of liquid and solid biofuels production is under continued examination and monitoring International Energy agency - IEA founded in1974, was designed to help countries coordinate a collective response to major disruptions in the supply of oil, such as the oil crisis of 1973-74. During years IEA has evolved and today examines the wide range of energy issues including renewable energy, electricity markets, energy efficiency and much more. The IEA agency is autonomous, based in Paris and has 29 member countries. The main decision-making body is the Governing Board composed of energy ministers from each member Country. IEA is providing authoritative analysis through a wide range of publications, including the World Energy Outlook and the IEA Market Reports; data and statistics, such as Key World Energy Statistics and the Monthly Oil Data Service; and a series of training and capacity building workshops, presentations and resources. IEA Bioenergy is an organisation set up in 1978 by the International Energy Agency (IEA) with the aim to improve international cooperation and information between and among different entities, such as government institutions, universities, utilities and private companies in bioenergy research, development and deployment. IEA Bioenergy’s mission is to facilitate the commercialisation and market deployment of environmentally sound, socially acceptable and cost competitive bioenergy systems and technologies and to advice policy and industrial decision makers accordingly. The activities of IEA Bioenergy are organised in Tasks which have well defined objectives, budgets and time frames. Ongoing tasks are: raw material related Tasks (43, 36), conversion process related Tasks (32, 33, 34, 37, 39, 42), assessment based Tasks (40, 38), ITP- Intertask projects and SP- special projects. 24 Fuels&Lubricants No. 1 OCTOBER 2017
