Conference Report Adriana Petrović The oil and gas industry has very complex and challenging task and responsibility to help drive the transition to a low carbon economy. Basilica Cistern Istanbul, Claudia Wehrli, www.publicdomainpictures.net The 22 nd World Petroleum Congress was held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 9-13 July 2017. The triennial World Petroleum Congress is widely known as the “Olympics of the Oil and Gas Industry” and covers all aspects of the industry from technological advances in upstream and downstream operations to the role of natural gas and renewables, management of the industry and its social, economic and environmental impact. It’s a prestigious and leading event for the global oil and gas industry every time, but additional significance of the 22 WPC was due to the specific political, economic and industrial changes which are currently occurring in the world. The theme of the 22 nd WPC was: Bridges to Our Energy Future. It was the platform for open dialogue to build bridges between consumers and producers, governments and industry, academia and financiers, leaders and society, in order to address open issues and present debates, developments and solutions for sustainable production, ensuring the use of the world’s energy resources but respecting the environmental requirements and fulfilling the world’s expectations. All the majors O&G companies were represented at the highest level. Exxon Mobil Corporation, BP, Royal Dutch Shell, Total, Saudi Aramco to name the most famous were represented with large delegation and Presidents and CEOs, whose plenary debates and interviews were the most attended.
