GATHERING
DEAR CAG
COMMUNITY
In the United States, November is
associated with giving ´thanks´ to
those who have contributed to our
well-being. The gesture is offered in a
great feast which represents peace
and prosperity. At CAG, we offer our
thanks to those who participated in
the October Town Hall by presenting
questions that offered a glimpse of the
hopes of dreams of the community.
Open leadership
In daring to dream during the Town
Hall experience, the CAG community
shared insight about their hopes for
their great school. We heard parents
ask how we were going to
meet the needs of all learners,
open leadership and entrepreneurial opportunities
for our students,
Entrepreneurial opportunities
plan for inclusive student participation in planning discussions,
increase athletic competitiveness,
provide a quality CAG student to a broader need based community and
develop a faculty culture that is creative and welcoming in ways that encourages longevity.
The questions we fielded are aligned with the vision of the CAG 2016-2021
strategic plan where our responsibility is to nurture a school culture that inspires
an understanding appreciation and respect for the importance of our legacy of
meaningful lives that bring value to Guatemalan and global communities.
We are learning from our students that their aspirations
are centered around design and wanting to be a part of
constructing something bigger than themselves in order
to leave something meaningful for others. I have been
impressed by the CAG student--they have kindred spirits that
are inspired by the challenges posed to them in their
education, our mission and from the world around them.
As we listen to the students, we also are learning to look
at the world through their lens, and to draw upon living
models of the CAG mission to encourage them to be
brave and courageous with their ideas and their
discoveries
Moving into the rest of this school year, we will continue to develop the steps for diverse learning
opportunities for a diverse CAG student profile. We are planning programs to develop our athletes,
while also training coaches to reach regional and international standards of competition. Little by little,
the sections on campus are finding ways to incorporate student feedback as we plan for the next
school year. We are identifying ways to improve the academic and student life program by ensuring
the Value Proposition is one continuous experience from Pre-School through to graduation and into
alumni status.
This works depends greatly on high levels of accountability for all of us. We have to make sure we
communicate often our goals for the year ahead, while also keeping our doors open for members of
our community to share their insights and support the improvement process. As such, we welcome
office visits from parents, students and alumni. We also extend an invitation to all to participate in
January´s Town Hall where CAG dreams will become a reality as we share what´s ahead.
Finally, we thank the APM for their role in making sure November is filled with opportunities for the
community to participate in giving thanks to all those who make CAG special. We hope to see you at
the upcoming Noche de Luces on December 6th!
CLASS OF 1962
GATHERING
On November 6, 2017, we had
the honor of hosting Class of
1962 at the CAG campus. We
had a great time as they all
shared their stories, checked out
the yearbooks and toured around
the school. What started out as a
small gathering at CAG ended
up being a walk down memory
lane as many smiles and laughs
were exchanged. Some APM
moms were also at the event
which made it extra special. We
hope to see Class of 1962 again
on our beloved campus.

CAPTURE THE CAG BUZZ
Interview of HS Newspaper Team
What do you see as
the main objective of
the Buzz?
The Buzz’s main objective is to keep students and
members of the CAG community updated and
informed about the accomplishments and impacts
we are making on many fronts. The Buzz aims to be a
source of school news and information that is
reliable, and relevant, that encourages and inspires
students to make a difference and be engaged in the
community.
1
2
Our audience is unique because they are students, just like us, reading
about what is going on in the community where they live, and study. This
affects the articles we publish because it is a newspaper made by students
for students. Our main purpose is to focus on CAG spirit and inform
students about what other students are doing in this community. For
example, we might focus on a community service club spending time at an
orphanage, a student council sponsored event, or an athlete that was
invited to compete in an international tournament.
What makes your
audience unique?
How do these
unique qualities of
your audience affect
the stories you
write, if at all?
3
What are different
ways that you are
trying to connect
with CAG students?
We try to connect with CAG students by serving as their
voice. Our writing is about the members of our community and
the special events that happen in the High School community.
We are trying to connect with CAG students by showcasing
events that are significant and inspirational to us and other
students. Through CAG Buzzing Around we have platforms
on Facebook and Instagram. We are also in the process of
developing an eMagazine similar to the one the CAG Public
Relations Office publishes.
4
HOW IS THE CLUB
ORGANIZED AND HOW
MANY MEMBERS DO YOU
HAVE THIS YEAR?
The Buzz’s articles fall into 5 different sections, each
one for every aspect of VIDAS. These sections are
overseen by 5 editors who are current Juniors and
Seniors. Currently, we have 36 members in the Buzz
and hope to attract some more next year.
Our greatest challenge in the Buzz is making sure that all
the articles that are published are high quality and
meaningful to the community. It is often a struggle for
members of the club to balance their academic
responsibilities, and at the same time, meet the high
expectations of The Buzz. However, we are working on
being flexible and striving to find the balance between both
dedication to The Buzz and our academic responsibilities.
WHAT ARE YOUR
GREATEST CHALLENGES
SO FAR THIS YEAR?
6
WHAT ARE YOUR
GREATEST CHALLENGES
SO FAR THIS YEAR?
5
We like to keep the previous editors (Cristina T., Maria Fernanda H., and Sofia C.) as examples of how we
should continue managing the club. We have had a great tradition of editors at The Buzz who have brought
new ideas and innovative ways to connect with our community. This means that like our previous editors,
we try to be responsible and accessible to our writers and the student body.
7
WHAT ARE YOUR
GOALS FOR THE REST
OF THIS SCHOOL
YEAR AS A TEAM?
Our goals as a team are to publish at least 3 editions of our eMagazine before the end of
the school year and to set up a solid platform for the years to come. We also want to
strive for greatness and meaningfulness when writing our articles. For all the members, it
is important to keep promoting school spirit around high school and the rest of the
community.
EC/ES Celebrate Math!
by: Analisa Gerig-Sickles ES teacher
The EC/ES Math Night Carnival was a great
success. Many students attended with their
families. Students had a chance to learn and play
math games. From these math games, they
earned tickets which they could use at carnival
games such as face painting, bean bag toss, pick a
duck and more. Even at the carnival games, they
would be asked math problems before they could
play. Some kids even won a week without having
to wear their uniform to school!
HIGH SCHOOL
KNOWLEDGE
BOWL TEAMS!
The High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Team
competed in the annual AASCA Knowledge Bowl
Tournament last week where both teams made it to
the quarter finals.
CAG is very proud of the hard work and training that was put in by
the team members and their coach, Mr. Russell Dysart.
A SPECIAL THANKS GOES OUT TO
ALL THE PARENTS, STUDENTS AND
FACULTY WHO HELPED MAKE THE
YEAR'S BARATILLO A SUCCESS.
The Wilson Gym was full of shoppers from our
operational staff members who were able to find
some good deals on toys, games, books and other
gently used items because of the generosity of the
CAG community. We especially thank APM for all
their support before and during the event.
