SPECIAL EVENTS<br />

• Book Sale - The Friends of the Maud Marks Library will hold their<br />

next book sale on Saturday, <strong>December</strong> 9th at 10 AM until 4 PM.<br />

There is a large selection of hardback fiction and nonfiction, as<br />

well as children’s books and paperbacks all at rock bottom prices!<br />

All proceeds will benefit the library.<br />

• Santa’s Ranch Open House - The holidays have arrived!! Join us as<br />

we celebrate our Santa’s Ranch Open House on Friday, <strong>December</strong><br />

15th from 1-4:30 PM. Come listen to Christmas music, visit Santa<br />

and join the elves in his workshop for fun crafts and other treats.<br />

• Family Film Festival - Bring the whole family out to our family film<br />

festival this holiday season. Every day for the week school is out,<br />

we will be showing a different mystery film complete with popcorn.<br />

Come on <strong>December</strong> 18- 22nd at 1 PM. On <strong>December</strong> 18th, George<br />

Bailey finds out what the world would have been like if he never<br />

existed. Then, on <strong>December</strong> 19th, a man puts on a famous red coat<br />

and his life is inexplicably changed. On <strong>December</strong> 20th, Kermit and<br />

friends act out the famous Dickens’ story. On <strong>December</strong> 21st,<br />

Ralphie gets a B.B. gun for the holidays. Finally, on <strong>December</strong> 22nd,<br />

a boy protects his home from would be robbers. Unfortunately,<br />

we cannot print the titles here, but call the library or stop by for a<br />

complete list.<br />

• CHESS WARS - Teens and tweens are invited to join us for Chess<br />

Wars! You played during the summer, now play during the school<br />

year! Join us every Tuesday at 4:45 PM as we battle it out on the<br />

chessboard. Come learn basic strategies and techniques to up your<br />

chess game so you too can play out of this world.<br />

• Volunteer at the Library - Volunteer opportunities abound at the<br />

library. Volunteers are needed to help shelve, count patrons and<br />

more. We will be holding our next volunteer orientation on Thursday,<br />

<strong>December</strong> 7th at 5 PM. Students should be in high school and<br />

must be able to commit to two hours a week. If you would like to<br />

help in any way, please contact Lauren Richards at 281-492-8592.<br />

• TeenMAKERS - Teens & tweens in 6th grade and up are invited<br />

to come MAKE something at the library. This will be a monthly<br />

program, which will include robotics, science experiments, art &<br />

crafts and more! This month, on <strong>December</strong> 7th at 3:30 PM, we will<br />

be making hand fans and flowers.<br />

• Share your Holidays Food Drive - On <strong>December</strong> 8th the library will<br />

once again be the drop off location for food donations for Channel<br />

13’s annual “Share Your Holidays” Food Drive. The library has<br />

participated every year since it opened in 1993. All food donated<br />

will be distributed by Katy Christian Ministries and benefit families<br />

in the Katy area. The library will be accepting donations of food<br />

from 6 AM to 6 PM at the entrance of the library building. The drive<br />

begins early in order to allow commuters the opportunity to stop<br />

by on their way to work.<br />

• Yoga Demonstration - You asked for it, you got it! The library hosts<br />

classes twice a month. Yoga can be a very relaxing and centering<br />

exercise program. Join us on Saturdays, <strong>December</strong> 2nd at 10 AM<br />

and <strong>December</strong> 16th at 3 PM, as we learn about the benefits and<br />

basic how-to of yoga. Join us as we exercise our minds and bodies.<br />

Registration required.<br />

• Fire Safety for Adults - Even adults need fire safety reminders once<br />

in a while. Tom Petty with the Harris County Fire Marshall’s office<br />

will be at the library on Tuesday, <strong>December</strong> 5th at 1 PM to remind us<br />

what to do if a fire happens to us. This seminar, designed for older<br />
