Christmas House, A Christmas<br />

Love Story a Century Old, brings<br />

Weymouth Center to life with the<br />

romance and beauty, both traditional<br />

and modern, which defines<br />

the southern Christmas.<br />

Weymouth Christmas House inspires<br />

special events and this<br />

year’s are certain to please and<br />

entertain the entire family. The<br />

Preview Gala on December 6, traditional<br />

Christmas Carols program<br />

on December 7 and the Candlelight<br />

Wine and Cheese Tour on December<br />

9, allow you to pretend, if<br />

for a short time, that you are Boyd<br />

a guest or family member as you<br />

bask in the glow of the holiday<br />

spirit. The gala begins at 6pm and<br />

features heavy hors d’oeuvres<br />

from Elliott’s on Linden, cocktails,<br />

live music & dancing. Nonmember<br />

ticket is $85 and $75 member<br />

and active duty military discount.<br />

Christmas Carols, at 5:30pm on<br />

Thursday is a free public event.<br />

Saturday’s Candlelight Wine &<br />

Cheese Tour begins at 5:30pm<br />

and is $45 for nonmembers,<br />

$35members and active duty military.<br />

This year, Christmas Carols, a<br />

treasured Weymouth tradition going<br />

back to the Boyd family, has a<br />

very special guest. North Carolina<br />

Poet Laureate, Shelby Stephenson,<br />

who, as The News & Observer<br />

stated “turns North Carolina<br />

into poetry”, will be reading at<br />

Carols. He describes his work as,<br />

“What I do, what I’ve always done,<br />

is tinged with this culture here.<br />

Point of view is what fascinates<br />

me. What’s beautiful is that everybody’s<br />

from somewhere, whether<br />

Brooklyn or San Antonio or Benson,<br />

North Carolina. I hope people<br />

hear music in my work.” A community<br />

evening with musicians, poets,<br />

writers and community leaders,<br />

this event is deeply rooted in<br />

regional history and touches the<br />

heart of Christmas. As always, this<br />

is free and open to the public.<br />

Weymouth Christmas Open House<br />

and Stable Tours are Thursday, Friday<br />

and Saturday December 7-9<br />

10am-3pm and Sunday, December<br />

10, 1pm-4pm, and offer live<br />

music and homemade refreshments<br />

throughout. The popular<br />

Holiday Boutique showcases 15<br />

local vendors presenting unique<br />

gifts and decorations certain to<br />

delight. Local artists add to the<br />

fare with special items for sale in<br />

different mediums. Plan ahead<br />

and purchase advance tickets for<br />

a discount: Nonmembers $20,<br />

members and active duty military<br />

$15. Tickets at the door are<br />
