Casting design also factors heavily into the<br />
quality of the final product. Dart’s R&D<br />
(Research & Development) department is<br />
involved in casting design from the earliest<br />
stages. Dart components use “chills”, special<br />
metal inserts into the casting mold which<br />
cool the metal at a different rate in the area<br />
around them as it is being poured. This allows<br />
us to control more than just the final shape of<br />
the part and quality of the alloy. It allows us to<br />
increase the final density of the metal in the<br />
specific areas that need it most. Techniques<br />
like this allow us ultimate control over the<br />
final casting.<br />
