Wednesday 2nd Montacute House, National Trust
ROUTE Z
This magnificent Elizabethan Mansion House located in South Somerset is constructed in
local Ham stone and incorporates a National Portrait Gallery exhibition. Highly
recommended. The house is noted for its fine furniture, tapestries and heraldic glass and
its amazing Long Gallery which extends the full length of the house - a remarkable 172ft!
Outside there is a superb formal garden with mixed borders, old roses and a landscaped
park - great for exploring. Montacute House was been used extensively as a film location,
notably in Ang Lee's version of Sense and Sensibility. Price includes entrance.

Wednesday 9th Godalming Horse Drawn Canal Boat with Cream Tea ROUTE C
We head to the ancient market town of Godalming delightfully situated on the picturesque River Wey in South West Surrey. Plenty of time here for an extended lunch and time
to enjoy the historic architecture of the town. Maybe take a stroll down charming Church Street to the church with the park beyond following the river. In the afternoon we
board our horse drawn barge for a 2 hour cruise along the river. Sit back, relax and enjoy the sounds of the river on board the traditional canal boat powered solely by the
towing action of the horse - a lovely tranquil journey. Facilities onboard include a toilet and a tea bar serving beverages and soft drinks.

cottages. We tour through the area stopping in Stow-on-the-Wold and the delightful
town of Bourton-on-the-Water with it's charming low stone bridges over the River

Thursday 10th Sidmouth ROUTE Z
Situated on the Jurassic Coast of Devon, Sidmouth has a unique charm and an
atmosphere of years gone by. Set in a lush valley and surrounded by the stunning red
cliffs, Sidmouth is one of our most popular destinations. Around the town there are
beautiful gardens where you can relax a while, leisurely walks and a delightful level
Esplanade with views along the coastline. There are some excellent friendly
independent shops in Sidmouth, and a range of cafes, restaurants and pubs. The
delightful regency architecture adds to the unique atmosphere of this lovely town - a

Thursday 10th Parham House & Gardens ROUTE C
Home to Lady Emma Barnard, Parham is a private estate beautifully set at the foot of
the South Downs in West Sussex described by Simon Jenkins as ‘in the Top 20 of
England’s Best Houses’. The traditional stone Elizabethan mansion complete with
Great Hall and Long Gallery, houses an excellent collection of portraits, furniture,

Friday 11th Polesden Lacey, Surrey - National Trust ROUTE A
Step back in to the Edwardian age at this magnificent country retreat near Dorking. Once the home of one of the great society hostesses of the time, the house entertained
the celebrities and royalty of the age. The house was transformed into a glittering spectacle by the same architects who designed The Ritz Hotel in London. Amongst the
rooms there is an extensive collection of fine art from Dutch old masters to ceramics including Faberge eggs. Outside, there are lovely grounds to explore with splendid
gardens and woodland for those who want a longer walk. Facilities include the Granary Café which serves a selection of hot and cold food. Price includes entrance.

Friday 11th Kensington Palace including Diana : Her Fashion Story

Kensington Palace is one of central London's royal residences and recently underwent
a £12million refurbishment. Formerly the home of Princess Diana, it is now the official
residence to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – Kate and Wills. Built in 1605, it has
roots in Jacobean architecture and is one of London's most exquisite palaces. Inside,
there are exhibitions exploring the lives of Kensington's inhabitants, whilst outside there
are acres of manicured gardens and the world famous Orangery. The successful
Diana - Her Fashion Story exhibition has now been extended. Price includes

Thursday 17th Kennet & Avon Canal Trip ROUTE A
