Monday 9th Highclere Castle - Downton Abbey ROUTE D<br />

Set in over 1000 acres of stunning 18th century parkland designed by Capability Brown<br />

and home of the Earl of Carnarvon, Highclere has been described as the finest Victorian<br />

House in existence and now, of course, is known all around the world, as the home of<br />

Downton Abbey. Created by Sir Charles Barry who also designed the Houses of<br />

Parliament, the castle has a magnificent library and drawing room with the highlight being<br />

The Saloon with its 50ft vaulted ceilings. Outside, you can explore the beautiful gardens<br />

and parkland. Tearoom on site & café for lunch - alternatively you may like to bring food<br />

Tuesday 10th City of Wells ROUTE Z<br />

Wells<br />

Wells is one of Britain's secret gems and a fabulous destination for a day out; proof that<br />

the country still has much to admire! Sheltered beneath the southern slopes of the Mendip Hills, it combines a wealth of historic interest and beautiful architecture. Wells<br />

qualifies as England's smallest, and Somerset's only city because of its amazing 12th century Cathedral. The wells, which gave the city its name, are located within the<br />

grounds of the Bishop's Palace, which is still the residence of the Bishop of Bath and Wells. Also of interest are Vicars' Close, claimed to be the oldest complete medieval<br />

Wednesday 11th Swanage Railway & The Purbecks<br />

A treat for all ages. We board the beautifully restored Swanage Railway at Norden with views of Corfe Castle, for a nostalgic steam train ride through the beautiful Purbecks to<br />

Swanage. After enjoying some free time in this attractive seaside town, on the beach or exploring the shops, we return to Norden by train and head home. This is a lovely day<br />

Tuesday 17th Hughenden Manor, Buckinghamshire - National Trust ROUTE A<br />

A highly regarded National Trust property, Hughenden was famously the home of PM<br />

Benjamin Disraeli. Surrounded by ancient woodlands and parkland, this impressive Manor<br />

House has a huge sense of history - the site of political drama and royal visits. As well as the<br />

political intrigue, the Manor also played an important role in World War Two as the RAF had<br />

a secret base here. There is a fascinating exhibition covering the houses involvement<br />

including a shelter in the basement. The gardens which were designed by Disraeli’s wife are<br />

another highlight - lovely to stroll around and enjoy the plants. Facilities include a café & tea<br />

room serving hot & cold food. You could also bring a packed lunch to enjoy on the estate.<br />

Thursday 19th Hampton Court Palace River Cruise ROUTE K<br />

A memorable day out. We board our River Boat at Chertsey at 11.00am and have a memorable 2 ¼ hour cruise with commentary up the River Thames through Sunbury Lock<br />

and passing lovely riverside properties, some formerly owned by such stars as Diana Dors. Approaching from the river gives a unique view of the Palace - we shall arrive at<br />

1.15pm, departing at 4.15pm. Plenty of time to explore the magnificent Tudor Palace with its remarkable history, stroll around the gardens and view the world famous maze.<br />

We would recommend that you bring a packed lunch to have on the boat to make the most of your time at Hampton Court.<br />
