If I had a penny for the number of times people in this, and other industries, used the word ‘busy’ I wouldn’t also need to be so busy! It has become a throwaway word and one which means we are all battling with uncertain times. Does busy mean we are working twice as hard for the same reward? Or does it mean our businesses are all flying at the moment, our services are in great demand and we are forging ahead with targets smashed because of the extra effort? My guess is that the answer lies somewhere in between. Now, more than ever, the focus is on working smarter. Perspiration has always played a part but while there is always a need for raw effort, we now need to look for inspiration as well. Anyone who visited the remarkable Schweissen & Schneiden this year will have marveled at the new approaches which are taking place in the welding industry. Automation and the use of technology may not be new, but they are the principles which will help convert that extra effort and busy-ness into more and more business. Of course such thinking begins at home and we are proud to lead the way at <strong>Welding</strong> <strong>World</strong>. In <strong>2018</strong> we look forward to the second edition of our <strong>Welding</strong> <strong>World</strong> Awards. By the time you read this we will be approaching the judging process. And in <strong>2018</strong> you can look forward to a wide range of feature subjects in this magazine which will lead the debate in the industry – along with all the best in news and views from members of the AWD. Until then, our very best wishes for the festive season – let’s hope for a week or two in which we can swap the ‘busy’ for ‘family time’ and come back raring to go for another key year.
