Following hot on their success at the Boats &<br />
Yachting Awards 2017, we sat down with ,<br />
Elio Desira Director of Oceanus Marine Ltd., to find<br />
out more about the company and gaining an<br />
insight into what motivates their ambition after<br />
having won the prestigious Small to Medium<br />
Size Business of the Year Award and Award<br />
for Excellence during Malta’s Best-in-Business<br />
Awards 2017.<br />

<strong>MBR</strong>: What is the clients’ feedback regarding<br />
the awards given to Oceanus Marine at<br />
Malta’s Best in Business Awards 2017?<br />
ED: The feedback that we received by<br />
telephone, emails and Facebook has been<br />
unbelievably exhausting. The number of likes<br />
on Facebook was immense. Our local and<br />
foreign clients were extremely happy with our<br />
achievements.<br />
One of the emails we received states, “Elio,<br />
well done and deserved. You worked very hard<br />
for this to happen, built up a good team, and<br />
in my opinion, you were the game changer<br />
for the local marine surveying industry. Our<br />
(as insurers) perspective on marine insurance<br />
surveys surely changed since we started using<br />
your services. I am sure your competitors look<br />
up to you too! Keep up the good work.” So as<br />
you can see, the collateral impact and huge<br />
success we had following these awards was<br />
unprecedented.<br />
<strong>MBR</strong>: What made you compete and take<br />
part in these prestigious awards?<br />
ED: We were nominated by clients, and we felt<br />
that we couldn’t let down who nominated us<br />
and our esteemed customers. I knew that the<br />
competition would be tough, but again, we<br />
never give up, and we accept all challenges.<br />
We also believe that such events create more<br />
exposure to companies.<br />
<strong>MBR</strong>: And were you surprised to win two<br />
awards during such a large and competitive<br />
field, being Small to Medium Size Business<br />
of the Year Award and Award for Excellence?<br />
ED: I was surprised. Some of the companies<br />
that we competed with have been established<br />
for many years and are considered to be big<br />
companies. Winning the first Award was a big<br />
surprise but when we were called up for the<br />
second Award, which in my opinion was the<br />
best Award – Award for Excellence – we were<br />
overwhelmed. After all those years of hard<br />
work, we felt that finally we had achieved<br />
recognition in a great atmosphere and unique<br />
organization.<br />
<strong>MBR</strong>: Why has Oceanus Marine become a<br />
respectful and recognized company, and a<br />
judge’s favorite in this year’s B&y Awards<br />
and also MBIBA?<br />
ED: Oceanus Marine Ltd., has been since<br />
day one a very professional and accredited<br />
company. We strive to be prompt with<br />
requests, we assist our clients in every<br />
endeavour, and produce professional work.<br />
We dedicated five days work for all company<br />
supporting documentation to be compiled<br />
and presented to the judges.<br />
The result proves that we were prepared<br />
well, and that the submitted documentation<br />
supported by evidence has given a full view of<br />
who we are, what we do and how we work.<br />
<strong>MBR</strong>: How much of a focus on B&Y to<br />
further develop your business are you<br />
presently concentrating?<br />
ED: Although Oceanus Marine Ltd., renders<br />
service to all the maritime industry, the Boats<br />
and Yachting sector remains at heart of what<br />
we do. Innovation is very important and our<br />
company’s aim is to continue expanding and<br />
improving on the strong foundations that<br />
already exist. Thus our focus on Boats and<br />
Yachting will be 100%, along with a 100% on<br />
all other Maritime sectors. <strong>MBR</strong><br />
