ebrew University’s Board of Governors oversees<br />
financial and budgetary matters involving the functions<br />
and operations of the university. Members include<br />
university leaders, a select number of faculty, alumni,<br />
students, and representatives from international Friends<br />
organizations. The first Board of Governors included the<br />
university’s founders, Albert Einstein, Chaim Weizmann,<br />
Martin Buber, Chaim Bialik, and Sigmund Freud.<br />
HU doctoral degrees are awarded to Ph.D. candidates during the<br />
Board of Governors annual spring meeting in Jerusalem. At this time,<br />
the honorary degree of Doctor Philosophiae Honoris Causa is bestowed<br />
upon academic, government, and philanthropic leaders. Additional<br />
ceremonies confer prestigious research and academic awards upon<br />
faculty and students who have achieved distinction in fields from the<br />
sciences to the humanities. Recognition ceremonies pay tribute to<br />
the philanthropic leadership of HU supporters from throughout the<br />
world. Special programming enables attendees to engage with the<br />
academic community and experience the university firsthand.<br />
Attendance at the annual meeting of the HU Board of Governors<br />
is open to all members of the <strong>AFHU</strong> community.<br />
