As a professional teacher and drama specialist, I determine the content of each session, find and edit the scripts, and listen to participants as they read various roles in order to cast the parts. I lead exercises to develop the voice, focusing on diction, volume and expression. I also visit the performance venue and make decisions about sound equipment for maximum projection. My experience as an actor, Reader’s Theater performer, instructor on the use of creative drama in the classroom, and audience member at community and professional theater performances, led to my current interest in directing. After my teaching career, and as an instructor for Carnegie Mellon University’s OSHER program for seniors, I felt that WCA might give me the opportunity to explore new pursuits as a participant and as a facilitator. The classes are intellectually stimulating, and a great way to meet talented women who share my interests. I find it fulfilling to provide an entertaining activity for our audiences. But the biggest reward is watching students grow, challenge themselves, and develop characters who resonate with the audience.
