BAY HARBOUR
PAGE 5
Yet another example of
self-serving individualism.
The community board and
council should stop worrying
about ‘keeping their jobs at the
next election’ and get on and
make a decision for the youth of
our community.
Danella Rielly – It’s actually
a fantastic spot as it’s just an
empty lot. I can grab a coffee
next door and watch my kids.
The apartments are next to
restaurants on the main road.
Noise was always going to be a
factor. My four, five and sevenyear-old
get hours of fun from it.
Karen Letchford-Cross –
Kids can’t win . . . skate and they
are ‘purposely causing noise’
or stay inside and the wowsers
whinge about kids spending
all their time on a screen! Look
at Washington Reserve in
Christchurch, loads of skaters
and having fun! Yes, there will
always be some ‘bad element’
but don’t tar all the kids with the
same brush!
Stephanie Hagerty – It’s
a catch 22 really. The kids need
something to do other than
vandalising or creating mayhem
but you want to live in a peaceful
neighbourhood. Perhaps there
could be a shut off time for week
(days) and later on weekends.
Charlotte Anne Dooley
– Would have been much noisier
at night when the Ruptured Duck
(Pizzeria) was there – it’s zoned
commercial so always going to be
noisy – lucky for the residents it’s
only during the daytime! Live in
a residentially-zoned area if you
don’t like it.
Kirsty Rueppell – The skate
ramp is a lot more appealing than
those hideous apartments that
would be more suited to the Gold
Coast. You’ve picked the wrong
crew to do battle with. Sumner
wants/deserves a skate ramp.
Thank you to the team who are
backing this and continue to fight
tirelessly in a voluntary capacity.
Thank you to the locals happily
locking up/unlocking each day.
It’s such a great community to be
a part of. City council is slowly
but surely starting to realise this.
Gavin French – If you’re
going to live in a built up area,
expect noise. Pay for triple
glassed windows to give you
quiet. Stop trying to rule other
people’s lives and get real.
Tiffany Burke – Put a
curfew on it, not sure how it’ll be
enforced, maybe a call to noise
control if people are skating past
the curfew. At least these kids are
outside and active, not glued to a
screen!
Nicola Clark – It’s a healthy
activity for the kids.
Ben Perkins – I lived in
Sumner for like six months and
saw that in use maybe three
times, all in the afternoon. It is
within a 20 second walk from the
coast, where half the tourists in
Christchurch can be found, it’s
literally in the middle of a shopping
centre, and there aren’t even
any houses next to it! It’s in the
carpark of a cafe! Whoever wants
this gone, needs to be gone.
You’re crying about nothing.
Alan Hane – Looks like wood
and plywood no wonder it’s
noisy. Needs to be concrete.
Fleur Chalk – Maybe those
people in the apartment should
give skating a try.
Sam Glassey – Build a
proper skate park? Would do better
than removing it all together.
Chelsea Berry – Can’t the
ramp be moved somewhere?
Maybe extended as compensation
for the inconvenience to the
boarders.
Michael Cochrane
– Pathetic. Probably going to be
moaning about the vandalism
that will no doubt happen to the
apartments when it gets taken
away.
Jess Howie – Always someone
to complain about kids having
fun – my thought was all that
sand ruining your bearings.
Penny Conaghan – Some
people just need something to
complain about.
Timo Costelloe – Tell the
apartment heads to chill out
Leonie Underdown – What
a pity it can’t be solved.
Michael Cook – What a
stupid place for a ramp.
Nikita Woodford – Let them
skate!
Grayson Rae – No way?!
Noise in a busy looking area?! No
way?!
Joanne Parker, Sumner
– In my opinion, I would rather
walk past a skateboard facility for
people my age (46) than
be subject to odd start
up businesses that don’t
last in Sumner and are not
thinking about the health of the
community. The reason people
move to Sumner is because of
the vibrant options for all age
groups, and good community
communication.
This community co-exists
because there is space for
everyone. The Sumner
Community Residents’
Association must continue to
advocate for the community as
this is a special place for all.
