A public meeting was held last week to give developers the opportunity to explain the complex to locals. It got the tentative thumbs up but quite a number of the people there were from Diamond Harbour. The Church Bay Neighbourhood Association was scheduled to meet last night, and the design of the complex appears to be a concern. Ferrymead Bays’ football side made it through to the final of the annual Coastal Spirit under-19 tournament at the weekend before going down to Dunedin’s Green Island 1-2 (see page 19). Wednesday October 25 2017 News Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi Almost 250 sign petition in bid to save ferry terminal bus park • By Julia Evans A 248-SIGNATURE petition pleading for bus parking to be saved at the Diamond Harbour ferry terminal has been sent to Mayor Lianne Dalziel. A letter and the petition was sent to the mayor, Environment Canterbury chief executive Bill Bayfield and Lyttelton Port Company chief executive Peter Davie by the Diamond Harbour Community Richard Suggate Association. Association chairman Richard Suggate expressed the community’s concerns regarding decreased bus access to the ferry terminal from three spaces to one. The petition aims “to ensure that within 100m of the terminal, there is adequate bus parking on the Lyttelton wharf and that there is a drop-off/pick-up zone for private vehicles.” Mr Suggate said the elderly, disabled or those with heavy parcels will have to walk from ON THE DOMAIN LINCOLN 3 MARCH 2018 TRANSPORT: A petition aiming to maintain bus access for Diamond Harbour ferry passengers has been signed by 248 people. And, he said, even then there is no guarantee there would be a drop-off zone at all. “The request is that the city council takes up its responsibilities as the port company shareholder and as the provider of public transport facilities, to put in place safe and easy public access to the Diamond Harbour ferry.” The association also wants ECan to ensure the bus service has adequate access to Lyttelton wharf by the ferry terminal and for the port company to ensure transport access is maintained. But Mr Suggate said the association is pleased the port company is looking at alternative options. An urgent meeting was held by the Banks Peninsula Community Board with the port company, ECan and the city council last Monday.
