Goalie rises to top
GREAT EFFORT: Five north-west students have put in a solid
showing at the Australian Gymnastics Championships in
Melbourne recently. After long hours training and building
strength, (back L to R) Anna Hooker, 14, Isabelle Ralston, 14,
Emma Logan, 14, (front L to R) Abby Field, 14, coach Alesha
Berry and Catherine Hooker, 17, all made the trip across
the ditch to compete. In the level seven competitions, Anna
Hooker placed second in hoop, Logan placed third in clubs,
Field placed fourth in ribbon. Together with Renee Macrae
from Nelson, the New Zealand team placed second overall in
level seven. All five girls train between 10-14 hours per week
at Breens Intermediate. In the level nine competition, Ralston
placed 15th overall while Catherine Hooker came 14th overall
in the level 10 competition.

Auckland to trial for New
Zealand’s FIFA under-20
women’s World Cup football
team that will play in Papua
New Guinea in November.
Foyle, 17, plays in the goalkeeper
position, and is one of
only two Christchurch members
in the current under-20
squad.
“There’s one other young
Christchurch woman in the
team and she’s 19 so a bit older
than me. I live and breathe
football and am really focused
on getting into the World Cup
team,” Foyle said.
She has been playing since
she was an 8-year-old, and currently
plays for Coastal Spirit in
their premier women’s team.
The young footballer can
also look ahead to the 2018
Under-20 World Cup following
this one.
“After this campaign, I’ll be
training hard for selection for
the next Under-20 World Cup
in 2018, as I will still be eligible,”
she said.

talent and shows what
can be achieved with focus and
hard work.
Foyle is in Auckland from
June 10-20 during which time
the under-20 squad will play the
