A name synonymous with the<br />
motor vehicle industry<br />
As a youngster, Trevor Crowe always tinkered with cars. After completing his<br />
mechanics engineering apprenticeship, he established Lichfield Motors and later<br />
Trevor Crowe Motors, obtaining the Subaru franchise in 1988. Crowe Subaru was<br />
the top selling Subaru dealership in New Zealand for many years.<br />
In 2000, Trevor sold his Subaru franchise to<br />
concentrate on his passion of motor vehicle maintenance<br />
and repairs, and motor racing in his spare time.<br />
“Trevor enjoys making and fixing things,” advises<br />
Josh Mitchell, Car Sales Manager at CroweSport. “He<br />
sold the franchise so he could specialise in repairs but<br />
so many customers kept asking to buy a car that he<br />
began importing second-hand cars, opening a car yard<br />
beside his workshop.”<br />
Josh joined Trevor as an apprentice mechanic when<br />
he left school. He learnt the ins and outs of Subarus<br />
while also helping out in the car yard.<br />
“Customers liked talking to a mechanic who could<br />
answer their questions about Subarus and how they<br />
worked,” explains Josh who admits to being as fanatical<br />
about motor vehicles and engines as Trevor is.<br />
After the 2011 February earthquake, the business<br />
took over a vacated business next door and Josh took<br />
responsibility for the buying and selling of cars.<br />
Each day, Josh sifts through the details of around 200<br />
cars at Japanese auctions, selecting vehicles reflecting<br />
quality. He then requests their Japanese agent to<br />
thoroughly inspect each car and recommend the best<br />
which CroweSport imports. With a new law governing<br />
the emission levels of imported vehicles, only Subarus<br />
that are 2004 or newer are imported.<br />
Around forty vehicles a month come into the<br />
CroweSport workshop where they are serviced and any<br />
repairs carried out before being placed in the yard for<br />
sale.<br />
“Our customers have peace of mind when purchasing<br />
our cars as they know they have been thoroughly<br />
checked and are in good condition,” explains Josh.<br />
Josh says that the standard of cars available from Japan<br />
is wide so they only deal with one company. This allows<br />
them to have an excellent relationship, building trust in<br />
their import agent who checks the cars at auction for<br />
CroweSport.<br />
Trevor and Josh both currently races Subaru<br />
Imprezas, and Trevor is building a new ‘Subaru Special’<br />
race car, which might explain why CroweSport really<br />
are Subaru specialists, though they repair and service<br />
all makes and models.<br />
CroweSport is a privately owned and operated<br />
automotive sales and service centre. They sell secondhand<br />
Subaru and are looking to the future with Nissan<br />
Leaf electric vehicles. CroweSport can be found at 5<strong>18</strong><br />
