A SPECIAL connection between
Community Energy Action and
some meerkats has them on the
cover of its fundraising calendar.
CEA has been sponsoring the
meerkats at Orana Wildlife Park
for the last three years, marketing
Gardening
co-ordinator Emily Coffey said
the not for profit organisation
supports them as they share a lot
of values with them.
“We feel like our community
values align with meerkats’ values.
They look after one another,
focus on looking after one another
and caring about their
otoring
environment. That’s what we are
about,” Miss Coffey said.
This year CEA teamed up with
Orana to create a calendar as part
of CEA’s annual fundraiser for
the park.
Miss Coffey said the decision
was “a bit spur of the moment”
and took about two months to get
the whole thing together.
“Once we came up with the
idea they were on board we’re
really excited to be working with
Orana on this,” Miss Coffey said.
The calendar features a selection
of animals from the park,
which Orana provided.
The meerkats take centre stage,
not only being on the cover but
also with a small photo on every
page accompanied by some energy
saving tips.
“It’s about making people aware
of the ways they can save energy
and money and getting that education
out there,” she said.
•From page 1
“At this stage we expect that
there will be a detour in place
via Manchester St for city
traffic,” he said.
“We’ll let the public know
as soon as we are more
advanced in our project planning
and are able to advise
the expected duration of this
intersection’s closure and the
specifics of the diversions.”
City councillor and
Papanui-Innes Community
Board member Pauline Cotter
said local business need the
support of the community.
“They have been hammered
with the closure of Edgeware
Rd in the past. But this is
work that needs to be done.
Hopefully, people will continue
to support those businesses
during this time,” she said.
SCIRT traffic planning
manager Colin Hey, said
they will work closely with
Christchurch Transport Operations
Centre to minimise
