IT’S KIND of been a bit of a slam
dunk I’m afraid in regards to
city councillor Aaron Keown’s
unsuccessful bid to get traffic
lights at the Gardiners, Breens
and Harewood Rds intersection.
On page 4 today, Mayor Lianne
Dalziel outlines why Keown did
not get the necessary votes to get
the improvements through the
council. Keown also has his say
on the matter in our weekly Soapbox
column (page 4).
The intersection rates 94th out
of 100 medium-risk intersections
in the city.
So that either means there are a
heck of a lot of risky intersections
in the city, or there are many
other more worthy intersections
that need upgrading.
Also, a cycle scheme at Jellie
Park has been a success the organisers
of it say and they are looking
to roll it out at other recreation
centres (page 3).
