YEAR 13 St Margaret’s College<br />
students Kate Jenkins and<br />
Tigerlily Perry have won awards<br />
at the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare<br />
Festival at Papanui High School as<br />
part of the Canterbury Ki Te Raki<br />
competition.<br />
For their interpretation of<br />
Timon of Athens, Tigerlily was<br />
awarded best actress, and both<br />
girls took out best student director<br />
and outstanding imagination and<br />
commitment to the text awards.<br />
The pair were selected to go<br />
through to the national competition<br />
in Wellington later in the<br />
year.<br />
All three of the school’s studentdirected<br />
pieces came away with<br />
awards.<br />
The Winter’s Tale, directed<br />
by Anna Rietveld, was awarded<br />
strongest use of movement and<br />
stage space.<br />
And a scene from Romeo and<br />
Juliet, performed and directed by<br />
Georgia Lund, Meg Fulton and<br />
Nina Hogg, gained most powerful<br />
moment for Meg’s karanga.<br />
Students from St Bede’s College<br />
also performed their version of<br />
The Taming of the Shrew at the<br />
competition.<br />
Ollie Flett from year 13 won the<br />
award for most promising<br />
actor.<br />

putting crosses out each<br />
year to honour those<br />
who went before them.<br />
The children also sold<br />
poppies last week and<br />
wore them with great<br />

Rangi Ruru’s UN ambassador<br />

RANGI RURU Girls’ School<br />
student Georgina Reynolds will<br />
participate in this year’s United<br />
Nations youth ambassador<br />
programme.<br />
Georgia is one of six<br />
ambassadors from across<br />
the city who have been given<br />
the job of organising and<br />
promoting events, such as the<br />
Model United Nations, which<br />
is a workshop for students to<br />
experience what life would be<br />
like as a diplomat.<br />
Georgia, year 13, said she’s<br />
excited to encourage other<br />
girls to take part in all the<br />
amazing programmes the<br />
UN youth programme has to<br />
offer.<br />
