Star Media scoops awards<br />
THE STAR has been judged<br />
the best of the best at the New<br />
Zealand Community <strong>News</strong>paper<br />
Awards.<br />
The Star, part of the Star Media<br />
Group, scooped the three top<br />
awards – best newspaper, most<br />
improved newspaper and it also<br />
took out the supreme award<br />
which covers newspapers, magazines<br />
and websites.<br />
Venetia Sherson who judged<br />
the supreme award category said:<br />
“The Star is bold in design and<br />
bold in attitude. The Star urges<br />
its readers to engage in debate<br />
and reflect on the issues it deems<br />
important to the community.<br />
“Strong grass roots reporting,<br />
and tight writing are the<br />
hallmarks of the paper. It tackles<br />
big subjects with a sure hand<br />
and features a good mix of civic<br />
issues, crime and community<br />
stories.”<br />
Mike Fletcher who judged the<br />
most improved newspaper category<br />
said of The Star: “The paper<br />
is a cracker. It is a joy to read.<br />
Judging by The Star’s pagination<br />
growth, the readers and advertisers<br />
like it and value it too.<br />
“The Star is filling a vital niche<br />
for news and views in Christchurch.<br />
Every page is attractive.<br />

It was a big night for Star<br />
Media’s team at the awards<br />
ceremony which was held in<br />
Christchurch on Friday.<br />
As well as The Star winning<br />
the top three awards, Kiwi Gardener<br />
was judged best all round<br />
lifestyle magazine, Gabrielle<br />
Stuart was the winner of the best<br />
senior feature/lifestyle journalist<br />
category and Bridget Rutherford<br />
was runner-up in the junior<br />
reporter and feature writer<br />
categories.<br />
Star Media also featured in the<br />
advertising awards.<br />
Rodney Grey was the winner<br />
and runner-up in the best advertising<br />
portfolio categories and<br />
Michaela Bolster was the sales<br />
excellence winner.<br />
