Countdown Northlands gives<br />
$76,935 to children’s hospitals<br />
MORE THAN $75,000 has been<br />
donated to children’s hospitals<br />
by Countdown Northlands –<br />
$76,935 to be exact.<br />
The supermarket presented<br />
Christchurch Hospital with the<br />
cheque for following the Countdown<br />
Kids Hospital Appeal<br />
fundraising efforts.<br />
The hospital is set to spend the<br />
money on ultrasonic height and<br />
weight measuring equipment<br />
for children’s acute assessments,<br />
outpatients, oncology wards and<br />
ward 22 and 21.<br />
It will also help pay for equipment<br />
for the children’s outreach,<br />
neonatal and neonatal outreach<br />
wards to get children home from<br />
hospital faster.<br />
The Countdown appeal has<br />
raised more than $1.26 million<br />
for 13 children’s wards around<br />
the country.<br />

AS THE summer heats up, so<br />
does the number of calls our<br />
troops are attending.<br />
It’s normal to have about 100<br />
calls in a week.<br />
Weather events, of course, add<br />
to the number.<br />
So the 169 incidents attended<br />
last week can at least in part be<br />
attributed to the weather, or the<br />
heat, to be more precise.<br />
A large number of false<br />
alarms, presumably from fire<br />
detection systems drooping and<br />
a large number of ambulance<br />
assists including, unfortunately,<br />
several sudden deaths, added to<br />
the list.<br />
Also we attended far too many<br />
grass and skip or bin fires.<br />
While a few of these are the<br />
result of accidents most of them<br />
were lit deliberately.<br />

train. I guess it’s better for them<br />

from a bakers oven in its tracks.<br />
