NO ONE disputes that repairs
to the New Brighton Pier need to
happen, but the timing behind
them seems a bit off. Some want
the repairs to begin after summer,
especially with the New Zealand
Surf Life Saving Championships
in March. It has apparently been a
good 15 years since the nationals
were last at New Brighton and the
best vantage point is apparently
the pier – makes sense. But until
the city council actually gets a
contractor, they will not know if
the pier will be open especially for
this event. Seems reasonable to me
that the city council should try to
work with the community to make
this happen.
