Sweet Adelines New Zealand Quartet Competition in Dunedin<br />

recently.<br />

A cappella group<br />

will head to Vegas<br />

AFTER WINNING the national<br />

championships, a cappella group<br />

L’Attitude Quartet is bound for<br />

Las Vegas.<br />

The group finished first at the<br />

Sweet Adelines New Zealand<br />

Quartet Competition in<br />

Dunedin recently.<br />

It is made up of members<br />

from throughout the<br />

country, including two from<br />

Christchurch.<br />

Carolyn Duggan, L’Attitude<br />

Quartet’s tenor, and Virginia<br />

Humphrey-Taylor, who sings<br />

the bass, both belong to the<br />

Christchurch City Chorus.<br />

The group’s other members<br />

are Patrice Driver, baritone,<br />

of the Nelson Bays Harmony<br />

Chorus, and Toni Griffin, lead<br />

singer, from the Bella A Cappella<br />

Chrous in Keri Keri.<br />

While getting together is<br />

a challenge, the women have<br />

achieved success through a<br />

passion for singing, dedication<br />

to independent vocal work and<br />

monthly weekend rehearsals.<br />

L’Attitude Quartet will<br />

represent New Zealand at the<br />

International Sweet Adeline<br />

Quartet Competition in Las<br />

Vegas in October.<br />

Home & Leisure Show playhouse<br />

competition and charity auction<br />

THE STAR Home & Leisure<br />

Show will feature a novel<br />

fundraising idea this year.<br />

Three teams will vie to build<br />

the most impressive and creative<br />

children’s playhouse, which will<br />

then be auctioned at the show on<br />

July 1.<br />

All funds raised at the auction<br />

will go to support local charities<br />

Birthright Canterbury and<br />

Tenants Protection Association<br />

Christchurch. Concept designs<br />

for the playhouses will be shared<br />

in The Star on Thursday.<br />

The teams will be vying for the<br />

‘best architectural playhouse’<br />

award, judged by a panel of<br />

experts, and the ‘people’s choice’<br />

and ‘kid’s choice’ awards, voted<br />

for by visitors to the Home &<br />

Leisure Show.<br />
