A CRACKER of a story – and
photo – on page 3 today.
Coral Luscombe’s dog was
knocked over by a car recently in
Parklands.
A crowd gathered and a
woman offered to drive Coral
and her dog Poppy to a nearby
vet.
She got there herself and when
she came out of the area where
Poppy was being treated, the
woman who had offered the ride
had followed her to the vet and
put $1000 towards the bill.
Coral still does not know
who the good Samaritan was
but, understandably, she is very
grateful – and so I suspect is
Poppy.
Today we profile potentially
New Zealand’s best emerging
rower – Jack Lopas.
The 17-year-old won gold at
the recent world junior champs
in the Netherlands, and he is
tipped as being among the best
of our next generation of rowers.
Reporter Bridget Rutherford
talks to him on pages 18-19. And
she knows what she is talking
about: She once rowed for St
Margaret’s.
Little River’s Jack Lopas is arguably New Zealand’s
best emerging rower
$26,000 raised for
SCOOTER SAFARI
More than 200 people jumped
on their scooters and rode from
Christchurch to Hokitika on the
weekend to raise money for the
Cancer Society NZ. Those who
took part dressed up in all sorts of
costumes, including police outfits,
snuggle suits and superheroes. Sarah
