THE DESERT OPENING<br />
NIGHT<br />
A huge dollop of camped up insanity gushed all the<br />
way from the Australian Outback to stiletto strut across<br />
the stage at the Isaac Theatre Royal, to be met with an<br />
uproar of approval. The fi rst night of Priscilla Queen<br />
of the Desert was a sparkling success, seducing the<br />
audience to a state of helpless laughter. Appropriately<br />
attired fans whistled, hooted, waved and stomped<br />
as they sang along with the myriad disco and ‘70’s<br />
pop hits. Costumes as colourful as a bag of manic<br />
liquorice allsorts, minced and danced up a storm as<br />
overhead, the levitating Greek chorus combined to<br />
create a vision reminiscent of a comedic nightmare.<br />
The evening was truly fun and truly exhausting!<br />

Animated plants strolled about Selwyn House like a<br />
scene from a storybook, causing little eyes to widen<br />
with wonder and little hearts to fl utter with excitement.<br />
It was not a mad scientist who had caused the pretty<br />
fl owers to walk upright but Jenny Gillies who, having<br />
clad teachers and staff in her gorgeous creations,<br />
offi cially opened the preschool’s new garden. Hot<br />
and humid, the day was perfect for a garden party<br />
and following a song from the pupils, a blessing by<br />
James Robinson, Jenny, got up as a honey bee, sliced<br />
the blue ribbon. Afternoon tea among the blooms<br />
concluded the wonderful day.<br />
