SDG 8<br />

recognises <strong>the</strong> import<strong>an</strong>ce <strong>of</strong> susta<strong>in</strong>ed economic<br />

growth <strong>an</strong>d high levels <strong>of</strong> economic productivity<br />

for <strong>the</strong> creation <strong>of</strong> well-paid quality jobs <strong>an</strong>d <strong>the</strong> achievement <strong>of</strong><br />

global prosperity. SDG 8 calls for provid<strong>in</strong>g opportunities for full<br />

<strong>an</strong>d productive employment <strong>an</strong>d decent work for all while eradicat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

forced labour, hum<strong>an</strong> traffick<strong>in</strong>g <strong>an</strong>d child labour <strong>an</strong>d promot<strong>in</strong>g<br />

labour rights <strong>an</strong>d safe <strong>an</strong>d secure work<strong>in</strong>g environments.<br />

SDG 8 draws particular attention to creat<strong>in</strong>g opportunities for<br />

<strong>the</strong> youth who are not <strong>in</strong> education, employment <strong>an</strong>d tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

order to prevent future erosion <strong>of</strong> skills <strong>an</strong>d job discouragement.<br />

SDG 8 also foresees enh<strong>an</strong>ced <strong>in</strong>ternational cooperation to support<br />

growth <strong>an</strong>d decent employment <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g countries through<br />

<strong>in</strong>creased Aid for Trade, development-oriented policies <strong>an</strong>d a global<br />

strategy for youth employment.<br />

The <strong>EU</strong> focuses on monitor<strong>in</strong>g <strong>progress</strong> <strong>in</strong> foster<strong>in</strong>g susta<strong>in</strong>able<br />

economic growth, <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> employment <strong>an</strong>d <strong>in</strong> provid<strong>in</strong>g<br />

decent work opportunities.<br />
