support and celebrate. Parent Teacher Conference: Amazing Turn-out! On October 30 and 31, our parents were welcomed on campus for two straight days to celebrate parent teacher conferences with the Holualoa School teachers. The relationship with your child's teacher is so important to maximize your child's success. It was great to see how much kind, intelligent, and friendly parents took time out of their busy schedules to discuss academic goals with the teachers. Thank you for your support of your child and the Holualoa School teacher! WASA Potluck Diner Join Us Tues, Nov.14-- Holualoa Cafeteria 5:30-7:00 This is an opportunity to meet the members of the WASC Visitation Committee* and talk to them about your involvement at the school and the various ways the school elicits your input (or not) in all sorts of decisions that are being made regarding the education of your child. *WASC stands for Western Accreditation of Schools and Colleges. This is Holualoa Elementary’s first time through the Self-Study process and experience with a Visitation Committee. The process is to include all “Stakeholders”, which includes parents and community members. Come and share your experiences and help us make the process even better! Holualoa School PTO is working hard to sponsor our 10th annual Fund Run. This is Holualoa's main fund raising event. Please encourage your kids to gather funds in their Fund Run envelope for our school. The Fund Run is an event where students run to raise money for our school. It's happening on <strong>November</strong> 17th at the Holualoa School field. Please be on the lookout for information regarding our fund raising bake sale – will be in need of volunteers and goodies of all kinds. Thanks for your help and support! Highlights for families with infants and young children Smartphones. Tablets. E-books, and more. The explosion of new screen devices offers both possibilities and challenges for families today. When should children be introduced to screens? How much time should they spend with screens? Is screen time helpful or harmful to children’s brain development? Does content matter? Mrs. Lee Loy- Our class is in need of pony beads (large beads), wire hangers, white cardstock, and string or yarn. Thank you Mrs. Haupert- Our class is in need of colored xerox paper, colored glitter glue, and sharpened #2 pencils. Gift cards to Costco, Target, and Office Max are greatly appreciated also to print photos for memory book, provide snacks and incentives at our monthly classroom store. Mahalo!!! Page 2 of 5
Mrs. Crawford- "wanted" Candyland board game, doll crib and clothes for a 14 inch baby doll. Mrs. Hale- Costco gift cards to purchase incentive items, plastic sheet protectors. Mrs. Prinslow- more earbuds, any good, extra small toys you have to put in our goody box. For example; extra items left from a birthday party, bubbles, and small cars, anything your child would like. Mrs. Paul- Our class could use donations of school-based incentives. Fun pencils, erasers, mechanical pencils, etc are much appreciated. We also need a couple sets of earbuds for computer lessons. Mrs. Baer- Any of the following would be greatly appreciated: Astrobright paper, adhesive velcro dots, HP color ink 952, gift cards to Costco, Wal-Mart, or Target to help offset the cost of picture development, student supplies, and classroom incentives Mahalo Nui Loa from the Holualoa Staff! Mrs.Barte- Many thanks and appreciation to Erin Ota for classroom support :-) Mrs. Yoshimura (Debbie)- Thank you to everyone who participated in the KTAs Kokua I Na Kula Program. Our school was able to turn in 2,429 foil lined wrappers and 35 canned goods! We came in 2nd place for the Big Island. We couldn't have done it without your help and we appreciate everyone's efforts! Mrs.Hale- Mahalo nui loa to the Ubando (Titan) 'Ohana for the battery donation! Mahalo to Ms. Blanka for volunteering in our class : ) Thank you also for everyone who participated in this years Spirit Week! It was exciting to see all the children and staff members dressing up each day and showing off their creativity! Mrs. Prinslow- Mahalo to Kilihea's ohana for the earbuds and CD player. Mahalo to everyone who donated items for Trunk or Treat. Mahalo to everyone who sent back a quick conference response. Mrs. Paul- Thank you 3rd grade parents for the Fall Fest support. Many, many donations made for a delightful event! Mrs. Tualaulelei- On behalf of Hawaiian Studies we would like to thank Arthur Murata (Dylan Murata's grandfather ) He donated Palai'e, Konane, Ulumaika, and Moa pahe'e games and a Hawaiian Curriculum. Also a big Mahalo to our guest speakers, Miss Kona Coffee-Jessica Lloyd, Brittany Johnson, Rex Tiumalu, and Pohai Kirkland. Mrs. D'Agostino- would like to thank all who have donated Trunk-or-Treat candy! Mrs.Baer- Mahalo to Healani Donager and Brighton Kimball's ohanas for the donations to the classroom. They will definitely be put to good use! :) Mrs. Barnes- I would like to say thank you for the clay donations and play dough to our 3rd grade classroom for their science diorama habitat projects! Also a big mahalo for the student and parent Spirit Week participation! It was really fun to see all the crazy hair students and super heroes around campus! Page 3 of 5
