Lifted Trucks On The Outer Banks
By Robert Heikens
Life on the Outer Banks has many activities for all to enjoy, but some require the use of a four wheel drive vehicle. From viewing the wild horses
in Carova to fishing on the beach in Hatteras a four wheel drive vehicle is essential and makes the journey fun and enjoyable.
Lifted trucks with bigger than stock tires and rims have become the popular vehicle of choice for many of the locals. Business and independent
enthusiasts have built some of the safest and best looking trucks in area. Johnny Heilig of Rebel Rides and Tommy Ayers of TMX Motorsports
are some of the professional that are able to do anything from lift kits to total custom truck builds. Amateur builders such as Eddie Wissman of
Spare Parts Racing Team build their trucks to race at the local Muddy Motor Sports and Morgan’s Corner race venues.
The storms that the Outer Banks encounters sometimes make the roads in the area impassable. Lifted trucks are the only way for some residents
to get to grocery stores, take loved ones to the doctor and get essential goods to the areas cut off from any other regular forms of transportation.
The lifted truck community, whether it be the professional builder or the amateur have made the Outer Banks easily accessible for all to enjoy!
Keep on wheeling folks and stay safe!
