Vögele: In just over 10 days it will be that time again and the world’s leading trade fair
R+T will be opening its doors again in Stuttgart after three years.
Mund: And this time there’ll be even more doors to open, because the fair has grown by another hall.
The new Paul Horn hall – Hall 10 – offers an additional capacity of 15,000 m2. The fair is fully booked
again, which means a record exhibitor participation. And how does this actually look? Which areas are
upgraded thematically by the new hall structure?
Vögele: I see two strong trending themes at the R+T, Outdoor und Smarthome. Both
themes will feature daily special events in the Rothauspark and at the BVRS ​stand in the
form of a live exhibition and a forum. Hall 10 has caused shifts in the hall themes, so the
doors have been moved to halls 8 and 10, giving us an extra 5,000 square meters of exhibition
space. Hall 6 will be the “outdoor theme hall”, where all the big players have their
spaces. It’s going to be interesting.
Mund: Let’s talk about the smart home topic again. This word was already wafting through the halls
at the last R+T three years ago. And in the atrium, the topic was extensively replayed with the event
“The networked house”. So what’s been happening since 2015 in the smarthome sector, how will this
trending topic be taken into account at the trade fair this year?
Vögele: If 2015 was just a one-day event, this year’s theme will be Smart Homes each
day. Topics such as energy efficiency, comfort, safety and sales/assembly in the form of
short presentations and panel discussions will provide for an interesting mix of information
for visitors. If R+S Handwerk doesn’t succeed in incorporating Smarthome into its
portfolio of services, other industries, like window manufacturers, will take on the business.
Mund: It’s clear here that the boundaries between trades are increasingly dissolving. In addition,
the networkers will stand out. After all, consulting expertise is called for more than ever before. The
window manufacturer is the assembler for the construction elements – but it also needs a tailor for
the Smarthome products. However, this type of profession has yet to be created.
Vögele: But what do the window manufacturers actually say about R+T?
Mund: Let’s see how many window makers come to Stuttgart. After all, there are a lot of trade fairs
this year: Just 18 days after the R+T in Stuttgart, which is about to start, the trade fair doors to the
FENSTERBAU open in Nuremberg. Fortunately, this coincidence only occurs every six years. It’s clear:
