The versatile act performed her smash hit ‘Rewind’ and was joined by Nigerian dancehall act Patoranking to perform their collaboration ‘Sing My Name’ on the night. In a statement issued by the General Secretary of the Association, Theodore Mawuli Viwotor, in Accra, the Association disclosed that, “we have received an official invitation from the host nation and the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF), to be part of the 24 nations competing for the coveted cup and we are ready to participate in the Mundial.” The Association revealed that it had already started fund-raising activities to rake in enough money to emplane the players and officials to Mexico and back in October. “We have embarked on several fund-raising activities initiated by Reverend Richard Nii Amartey Adesah, Chairman of the Association, and soon the fruits would start showing. We have the One Ghanaian, One Ghana Cedi project and we have also contacted some corporate bodies and the response is very positive,” the statement clarified. The Association made it clear that, it was conscious of the difficulties the state faces in funding such events and has decided to raise funds to support whatever would come from government. Ghana is one of the 24 nations to take part in this year’s world cup scheduled to take place in Guadalajara, Mexico from October 24 to November 5, 2018. Connoisseurs of the game tip Ghana to make significant impact with its record as the nation with the highest number of professionals in amputee football. Thirteen Ghanaians are currently playing in the Turkish Amputee Football Premier and Division One Leagues. Ghana’s national team, the Black Challenge, holds the record as the first African Champions and the first nation in the world to transfer players professionally. It is expected that, with the local league beginning this year, the nation has the greatest prospects of winning the world cup if all the right measures are put in place. The Association is, therefore, appealing to all Ghanaians and the corporate world to support the team to make history at the World Cup, in addition to its enviable record in the game. Ghanaian athletes need to change mindset – Sports Pundit BY ANNETTE S. YEBOAH SPORTS PUNDIT, Mr Isaac Mensah has urged Ghanaian athletes to change their mindset in order to get all the needed help to excel in their fields. Mr Mensah said this to the DAILY HERITAGE in Accra on Saturday when the executives of World Amateur Body Building Association (WABBA) met to engage some athletes of the sport at the Bonds Square Gymnasium at Adentan Barrier in Accra. Mr Mensah, who is also the patron of the association, said most Ghanaian athletes had failed to sell their image as a brand to both the Ghanaian and international markets. According to him, they should start visualising themselves and begin to break the code of just limiting themselves and being afraid of change and take advantage of every little opportunity that they chance upon. “Ghanaian athletes should start to set vision for themselves and executive them. They must also take advantage of the social media by posting their images there. Someone out there would be interested and make them brand ambassadors. “They should not rely on the federations they are in to do for them, they must take it upon themselves and do it,” he said. The patron called on the athletes to go by the code of conduct of the association in order to present themselves well both locally and internationally. •Mr Isaac Mensah, Sports pundict President of WABBA, Mr Victor Baiden added that the athletes must help themselves first before they would get the support they need. According to him, “it is true that there are numerous challenges facing the Ghanaian athletes, but in the first place what has the athlete done to appeal for that help?” The president further said WABBA will make sure that they brand and take the athletes through some orientations to boost their confidence. WABBA will on Saturday, March 3, 2018 commence community auditions as they look to identify potential athletes who would compete at the regional and district levels. CONGOLESE CLUB Athlétique Renaissance Aiglon Brazzaville (CARA) will today host Asante Kotoko in the second leg in the preliminary round of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederations Cup in Congo. Kotoko beat CARA by a lone goal, in the first leg at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a game that saw referee Falou Kane awarding five penalties. Many have warned and advised Kumasi Asante Kotoko ahead of the match and GNA Sports takes a look at five important things the Porcupine Warriors should take into account, as they embark on a journey to silent CARA in their own back yard. Kotoko should be ready for intimidation from CARA before the match. CARA came to Ghana and didn’t look like a side that was to be pushed aside as they exhibited gross disrespect in Kumasi before the game by urinating on the playing pitch, before training a day before the game. And they losing by a goal and knowing that they have a good chance of qualifying to the next round of the competition, would subject Kotoko to all forms of intimidation right from arrival to the start of the match. Kotoko shouldn’t expect a fair officiating; having been awarded four penalties in the first leg encounter, Kotoko should expect that referee Martin Mokete from Lesotho, who has been assigned to handle the return leg, would have a lot of pressure on him to either award a penalty or have some decisions go in favour of CARA to help them kick the Porcupine Warriors out of the competition. With this in mind, they must go into the game with their own referee by being extra cautions and playing according to the whistle. Anything short of this would see them smiling on the wrong side of their faces. No need for defensive play. It would be absolutely needless for Kotoko to enter the game with a defensive mindset. Though they have a one goal advantage to themselves, there would be no need to play defensive as an away goal would go a long way to help them advance to the next stage of the competition. Any attempt to play a defensive game would see them bear undue pressure from the home and are capable of crumbling under the intense pressure. Players must take chances. The first leg saw Kotoko squandering some descent scoring chances, including three penalties, the second leg provides them the opportunity to make amends and take their chances as they come. Playing away from home in such a crucial game, gives no room for being wasteful or they would pay dearly for that and therefore the likes of Sadick Adams, Yakubu Mohamed and Baba Mahama as well as captain Amos Frimpong must utilise any chance that comes their way no matter the situation.
