$15,000 Federal funding boost for Hillies Rugby<br />
TS ill ugy Clu is set to enefit<br />
from funding through the Australian Government’s<br />
Stronger Communities Program.<br />
North Sydney MP<br />
Trent Zimmerman<br />
said the Australian<br />
Government would<br />
provide $15,000 to<br />
assist with the purchase<br />
and installation<br />
of new drainage<br />
at Boronia Park Oval<br />
in Hunters Hill.<br />
<strong>The</strong> total project<br />
cost is $50,000.<br />
“Hunters Hill Rugby<br />
Club is one of the<br />
oldest in the Sydney<br />
Suburban Rugby<br />
competition and indeed<br />
in Australia and<br />
I am delighted to be<br />
able to provide funding<br />
for new drainage<br />
that will ensure better<br />
access to Boronia<br />
Park Oval during and<br />
after wet weather”.<br />
“Known as the Hillies<br />
the Club is 126<br />
years old and has<br />
well over 600 players<br />
across its divisions<br />
and was NSW Rugby<br />
Club of the Year and<br />
division champions<br />
in 2017. <strong>The</strong> Club<br />
does an excellent job<br />
in bringing people together,<br />
encouraging<br />
fitness and developing<br />
a passion for rugby”,<br />
Mr Zimmerman<br />
said.<br />
Hunters Hill Rugby<br />
Board president Luke<br />
McCormack said the<br />
club was delighted to<br />
have been successful<br />
in their application.<br />
“We appreciate<br />
Trent’s support of the<br />
Club both as our local<br />
MP and also as<br />
Club Patron”, said<br />
McCormack.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Club recently<br />
hosted a huge rugby<br />
promotion at Boronia<br />
Park Oval in support<br />
of junior registration<br />
for season <strong>2018</strong>.<br />
Hunters Hill junior<br />
products and current<br />
NSW Waratahs stars<br />
Andrew Kellaway<br />
(Randwick) and Hugh<br />
Roach (Eastwood)<br />
brought along NSW<br />
team mates and Wallabies<br />
Nic Phipps<br />
and Ned Hannigan<br />
to help out and<br />
meet club fans and<br />
conduct a skills and<br />
coaching clinic.<br />
It was a successful<br />
rugby community<br />
event with over 150<br />
young players in attendance,<br />
many first<br />
time registrations.<br />
Highlight of the afternoon<br />
was the appearance<br />
of Australian<br />
Women Sevens<br />
Pearls stars – Shannon<br />
Perry and Emma<br />
Tonegato - who took<br />
control<br />

of a special session<br />
for young try-rugby<br />
participants, particularly<br />
targeting young<br />
girls.<br />
Both Phipps and<br />
Perry expressed<br />
what a great afternoon<br />
of “grass roots”<br />
rugby was organised.<br />

the senior Waratahs,<br />
Wallabies and Aussie<br />
Pearls players that<br />
made the event such<br />
a huge success.<br />
“You tend to hear<br />
a lot of the bad<br />
news stories when<br />
it comes to rugby in<br />
Australia these days<br />
but the players efforts<br />
is a great (rugby)<br />
news story and<br />
I can’t thank them<br />
enough for the time<br />
they gave to their<br />
young fans” revealed<br />
McCormack.
