CTE & ROP
course will provide students with a fundamental understanding
of the MA and their role in health-related fields, thus aiding
them in career decisions. Proof of current immunizations
and a negative TB test are required and the Hepatitis B vaccination
is highly recommended. Readiness for employment
is stressed. A uniform is required for on-the-job training and
students must provide their own transportation to and from
the work site. This course may not be repeated for credit.
MEDICAL AND HEALTH CAREERS (L8142)
10 Credits, One Year, One Period, Grades 11, 12
Location: ROP at Logan
Exploration for career pathways in health, medicine, life sciences,
and biotechnology; health care systems, health careers,
medical terminology, medical ethics and law, human
growth, development, nutrition, and infection control. This is
introductory class taken during junior year and students can
take Medical Occupations in their Senior year. This course
may not be repeated for credit.
MEDICAL INTERVENTIONS/BIOMEDICAL INNOVATION PLTW
(L8207/L8208)
20 Credits, One Year, Two Periods, Grades 11, 12
Pending Approval: These courses have been submitted for
CSU and UC subject type ‘d’ Laboratory Science (for Medical
Interventions) and subject type ‘g’ Elective (for Biomedical
Innovations) college entrance requirements.

Prerequisite: PLTW Principles of Biomedical Science/Human
Body Systems, AP/H Bio, or a B or better in Chemistry
Internship Required
In the first semester, students follow the life of a fictitious
family as they investigate how to prevent, diagnose, and
treat disease. Through cases, students learn about a range of
interventions related to immunology, cancer biology, surgery,
genetics, pharmacology, medical devices, and diagnostics.
In the second semester, students build on previous
knowledge and skills to design innovative solutions for the
most pressing health challenges of the 21st century. Students
address topics ranging from public health and biomedical
engineering to clinical medicine and physiology. They will
have the opportunity to either work at an internship or an
independent research project. Students must provide their
own transportation to their on-the-job training site. This
course may not be repeated for credit.
MEDICAL OCCUPATIONS (L8141)
20 Credits, One Year, Two Periods, Grades 11, 12
Las Positas College Credit possible
Location: ROP at Logan
Prerequisite: Proof of current immunization and a negative
TB clearance on two consecutive years is mandatory. Background
check and urine drug clearance are required by certain
internship sites. A uniform is required for on-the-job
training and students have to provide transportation to and
from work sites.
Internship Required
This course prepares students for entry-level employment in
a variety of medical or health careers. Instruction includes
professional ethics, medical terminology, infection control,
vital signs, basic anatomy and physiology, CPR and special
clinical procedures. Students are placed in Internship at hospitals,
doctor’s offices, pharmacies, physical therapy, nursing
care facilities and dental clinics based on their career choice.
Immunizations, scrubs and personal transport to the sites are
required. Students will attend control class on every Monday
at their home school on their scheduled class periods. This
course may not be repeated for credit.
MOTION GRAPHICS 1 (L8250)
20 Credits, One Year, Two Periods, Grades 11, 12
Meets CSU and UC ’f’ Visual and Performing Arts college entrance
requirement.
Location: Mission Valley ROP Center in Fremont
Students in this course learn how to create posters, original
print, 2D & 3D animation, real time animation, retouch &
manipulate photographs, game graphics, all created with
cutting edge tools such as Adobe CS6, Photoshop, Illustrator,
After Effects, Flash, large format printing, scanning, and
more. This course may not be repeated for credit.
MOTION GRAPHICS 2 (L8250X)
20 Credits, One Year, Two Periods, Grades 12
Location: Mission Valley ROP Center in Fremont
Prerequisite: Motion Graphics 1
Students will gain advanced training in how to create posters,
original print, 2D & 3D animation, real time animation, retouch

MULTIMEDIA WORKSHOP (L8193)
10 Credits, One Year, Grades 11, 12
Location: Career Technology at Logan
Prerequisite: Approval of Instructor
Students will learn how to run, trouble shoot and manage
audio and visual equipment on the James Logan High School
campus. After intensive training, students will be responsible
for sound and lighting at special events. Students will also
learn professional video production and editing as they produce
programs and projects about campus events. Students
will use professional tools that include Panasonic AVCCAM
camcorders and multimedia software collections: Apple Final
Cut Studio 3 (Final Cut Pro 7, Motion, DVD Studio Pro) and
Adobe CS6 Master Collection (Premiere, After Effects, Flash,
Photoshop, Encore, Audition.)
