SUKIPT <strong>2018</strong> : <strong>UPSI</strong> Garners 8<br />

Gold Medals, 5 Silver Medals and<br />

12 Bronze Medals<br />

<strong>UPSI</strong>, 12 February - Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris manages to score the<br />

eighth place out 78 contingents during the SUKIPT games (SUKIPT <strong>2018</strong>)<br />

by tallying eight gold medals, five silver medal and twelve bronze medals.<br />

The <strong>UPSI</strong> contingent consisted of 250 athletes and officials throughout<br />

16 different sporting events. The contingent manages to collect six gold<br />

medals from the silat event while taekwondo and petanque contributed to<br />

one gold medal each.<br />

The silver medals were garnered from track & field (2), silat (2) and<br />

petanque (1), while the bronze medals were tabulated from track & field<br />

(2), ten pin bowling (3), rugby (1), taekwondo (5) and football (1),<br />

<strong>UPSI</strong> was also tabulated as the overall champion for the pencak silat<br />

event. During the 2016 games, <strong>UPSI</strong> was tabulated at the 10th after<br />

managing to garner 7 gold medals.<br />

The SUKIPT games were held biannually by the Ministry of Higher<br />

Education in collaboration with the Higher Learning Institute Sports<br />

Committee (MASUM, MSP, MASKOM and MASISWA).<br />

The games were held as part of the Ministry’s effort to further develop<br />

and improve the execution of sporting events at the Higher Learning<br />

Institute level, both internationally and domestically, in tandem. The<br />

participation for the event is open to all Higher Learning Institute athletes<br />

in Malaysia.<br />
