Why set new years resolutions? By Andrea booth r is a fresh start. Many people choose to set targets for their new year, ill be better than the last, but, in fact, only 8% of people actually keep them. n try but give up when they get to February. So is it worth all the hassle? Do ew Year’s resolutions? are the most common resolutions? Many people try to keep active, lose at healthier to improve their physique. Others prefer to try something new correcting their mistakes; people try to learn a new skill or hobby, or simply d more time with their family. Children prefer simple resolutions such as to ganised. However, not all targets are for personal gain: many people try to ing for others. Giving money to charity, helping out around the house and g are all selfless resolutions people make to help others. But why do we Year’s resolutions? Most people fail to maintain their resolution so it seems point. We keep making ourselves targets with hope that the next year will be e hope that we will learn from our mistakes. Around 4,000 years ago, the s celebrated the first new year and made resolutions. We have continued to radition on through the Roman era and to our society today so the likeliness n’t end anytime soon. people think that there is no point in New Year’s resolutions if we don’t em. However, there are some things you can do to make yourself more likely esolution. <strong>The</strong> first is to start small; don’t set yourself a massive target if you on’t be able to achieve it. It’s best to take one thing at a time. Another thing need to talk about it; you are more likely to succeed if you share your goal . It is hard to do anything on your own. Also, it may be easier to choose a solution perfect for you; don’t just pick one of the common ones previously . It’s not a good idea to choose one of your previous resolutions if you’ve ed, as it sets you up for frustration and disappointment. So it’s not too late to ing new; if you haven’t chosen a resolution why not start now? If you still are your New Year’s resolution then well done; if you continue you will be one t the end of the year. Make your resolution with a purpose, as it is not worth ne if you don’t follow through. But of course we need to carry this tradition s been going for 4,000 years: why stop now? If you didn’t succeed, there’s t year.
