DORIS LANCE EXHIBIT
IN MARCH
The Paso Robles City Library
invites the public to enjoy the work
of Doris Lance. After relocating to
Paso Robles in 2015 her passion
and focus has been to walk and/or
hike throughout San Luis Obispo
County with her trusty camera and
backpack. Wildflowers and selected
trees, shrubs, reeds, rushes and ferns
from San Simeon to Pismo Beach
were found, digitally captured, and
framed for this exhibit.
The Wild in Wildflowers, has a
vast array of macro blooms of red,
yellow, blue, purple, and white. Each
photograph is identified by scientific
name and common name, and
where space permits, the location
with the county.

PROGRAM KICKS OFF CUESTA
BOOK OF THE YEAR EVENTS
The Paso Robles City Library
kicks off this year’s Cuesta Book
of the Year classes and events on
Thursday, March 1, 6-8 p.m., in the
Library Conference Room, with a
presentation by Debra Balke, a local
doctor specializing in pediatric neurology.
Balke will speak on the subject
of autism, discussing what it is, its
effects on families, and current treatments.
This presentation will provide
the perfect introduction to autism,
the subject of this year’s Cuesta Book
of the Year and the focus of the Paso
Robles City Library’s March class
and event offerings.
Signups for this event are recommended.
Register online. Space
is limited. Children 13 and younger
are welcome with adult supervision.
HATS OFF TO DR. SEUSS!
A BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION FOR
SEUSS FANS YOUNG AND OLD
Dr. Seuss fans are invited to
celebrate his 114th birthday on
March 2, from 1-5 p.m. in the
Children’s Library. Enjoy the
photo booth, go on a scavenger
hunt, and make a bookmark. And
don’t miss a magical story time
with special guest Cat in the Hat
at 3 p.m.

“Make It” in the Library Story
Room on Saturday, March 3, at
either 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., or at
1:30 p.m.
Enjoy colorful, effervescent, and
good smelling Bath Bombs made
by YOU! Learn to make basic bath
bombs at this sensory maker class,
part of the library’s Cuesta Book
of the Year offerings. Using simple
ingredients, you will make 3 bath
bombs – enough for you to enjoy
and share with a friend.
This class is limited to age 16 and
older. Signups for this event are required.

LIFE, ANIMATED
BY RON SUSKIND
LIBRARY BOOK CLUB’S GOOD
READ FOR MARCH
Join the library’s Book Club
on Thursday, March 15, 7-8 p.m.
for a compelling discussion of
the book Life Animated by Ron
Suskind.
This nonfiction
work tells
the story of
Owen Suskind,
the son of Pulitzer
Prize-winning
journalist
Ron Suskind and his wife, Cornelia.
A boy with autism who couldn't
speak for years, Owen memorized
dozens of Disney movies, turned
them into a language to express
love and loss, kinship, and brotherhood.
The family was forced
to become animated characters,
communicating with him in Disney
dialogue and song; until they
all emerge, together, revealing
how, in darkness, we all literally
need stories to survive.
The Library’s Book Club meets
monthly throughout the year.
In addition to the book club,
the Paso Robles City Library
invites you to enjoy a showing
of the award-winning documentary
based on the book Life,
Animated by Ron Suskind.
KNITTING WITH META!
Learn to knit with master knitter
Meta Nesbit on Saturday, March
17 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
The library is providing knitting
classes for beginning and intermediate
knitters, age 13 and up.
All the basics will be covered including
casting on, knit, purl,
and bind off. All supplies will be
provided for the beginning knitter.
More experienced knitters
are welcome to bring their own
projects, so get that half-finished
scarf or sweater out of the closet
and receive expert advice on
how to complete it. A follow-up
class will be offered on Monday,
March 19, beginning at 6 p.m.
Space is limited. For ages 13
and up.
FREE TAX ASSISTANCE
AT THE PASO ROBLES LIBRARY
As in prior years, the Library
has partnered with AARP Tax
Aide to provide free basic income
tax return preparation assistance
on Saturdays, February through
March.
The Library is one of the few
places you can go for assistance
with both federal and state tax
forms, instruction booklets for the
most common forms, and Reference
Desk staff assistance with
accessing and printing forms from
websites.
To schedule an appointment
call the Library. Available time
slots fill fast so call early.
