Cross Houses Knit and natter nutter’s We are a small group of very friendly ladies who meet once a month for a chat and to make items for charity events which we run twice a year for local causes - everyone is welcome and you don't have to worry about ability - we are all different and learn from each other whilst having a laugh. Ticket Price £5.00 All proceeds will go to the British Heart Foundation. COUND & DISTRICT CRAFTERS Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at Cound Guildhall 10am - 12 noon. £5 per session, different crafts each meeting. News from Christ Church C.E. Primary School Learning, Listening, Living Did you know that volunteering has been recommended by the NHS? Numerous scientific studies have shown that people who volunteer are healthier and feel more positive about life than those who don’t volunteer. The NHS estimates that an amazing 44% of you volunteer at least once a year for something outside of your work, family or home. Thank you to all of you who are already volunteers! As a school we welcome volunteers in a number of capacities: Reading Support – we have valued volunteers who come into school for a couple of hours each week and talk to children about books and hear them read. The children love it. Governors –the school’s ‘critical friend’ asking questions about the education we provide for children and making sure that we use public funds wisely. Open the Book team – coming into school every Monday to share a Bible story with the children through drama and storytelling. If you would like to volunteer there are opportunities, please be in touch. In particular, our Governing Body has space for a co-opted member and we are looking for someone with current or past experience in either education or business. Other governors are very supportive and this could be a great way of investing in our children and is looked on favourably by many employers. If you want to find out about governors or other ways of volunteering do contact the School Office. As with all work with children, a DBS check is required (criminal records) and we provide training and support to help you enjoy the role. For the summer term the whole school has an ‘Animals’ theme and we are looking forward to a visit from ‘The Animal Man’ with reptiles and insects, at the start of term and a visit to the Safari Park, later in the summer. Red Class: Year R and Year 1 Red Class are thinking about Jungle animals. Green Class: Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 Green Class are studying animals and plants in different habitats. Yellow Class: Year 4, Year 5 and Y6 Yellow Class are thinking about life cycles. We are also working on a joint Primary Stars programme with Shrewsbury Town Football Club for a day a week Remember we are the catchment school for many villages: Cressage, Cross Houses, Harley, Cound, Coundmoor and Sheinton but we also have children attending from further afield. We work closely with Childrensworld UK who are onsite and offer an “Outstanding” (Ofsted) nursery and wrap-around childcare for before/after school and the holidays.
