Linwood Community Development Trust (LCDT) was formed by a group of volunteers from the local community, who want to improve health and wellbeing, reduce social inequalities and build social capital within Linwood. They have formed an alliance with other groups to create the positive changes needed to make Linwood a more attractive place with a more vibrant and healthier community. Following extensive consultation with the local community, the Trust has now developed a number of projects to address issues which local residents identifi ed as being important. This backward and retrograde proposal will simply not be frequent enough to meet the needs of all my constituents in Linwood, Houston, Crosslee, and Brookfi eld. My constituents in our villages have made clear that at least two buses an hour is the minimum which McGills should offer. At the last full Council meeting I seconded a motion calling on McGills management to play fair by the villages. For the crucial and material change is that under the new proposals neither Brookfi eld, Houston, or Crosslee would have a direct bus link to Paisley, so commuters would need to change buses rather than make one smooth trip to their place of employment. This is simply unacceptable as if we want people to go green and leave the car then we need to make that a realistic option. We are pleased to announce that this years Queen and King have been selected. The Queen is Abigail Nelson and her attendant is Amy Spearing, for the fi rst time we have a King, Angus Feely and his attendant, Murray Gray. Attention is now recruiting helpers and looking for donations to cover all aspects of the event. It is important to remember that the Carnival is one of the highlights of Houston village calendar and we need the support of the community to make it successful. The plant stall is always a major attraction on the day and the team are always on the lookout for donations of plants and cuttings. The White Elephant Stall is another popular stall who are looking for donations which can be uplifted if necessary (no large items of furniture or any electrical appliances. Remember Home Baking Stall this is always very popular so get baking and fi ll the freezer tearoom and baking stall would be very grateful. There are many other stalls, this year there will be no book stall, soft goods or jewellery stall. They will be replaced by a label on or very nearly new clothing for children under 5 stall. There is also going to be a Home Produce stall preserves (glass jars) shortbread, dumpling etc., another fi rst will be a photo booth where you can have fun dressing up and have your photograph taken, (after face painting.) Contact brookfi eldvpa@ gmail.com for more information or to book a place. houston, crosslee & brookfield Brookfield Village Trust update Purchase of Merchiston Field An Extraordinary General Meeting of Brookfi eld Village Trust took place on 27th February to approve the purchase of the Merchiston fi eld from Greater Glasgow & Clyde Health Board. The fi eld lies between the village and the new Weirs Wynd housing development. If you wish further information please contact, Arlene MacKay on 07932 459994. 41 MONDAY 16th APRIL Heartstart training sessions will be held in the Village Hall on Monday 16th April from 10am – 12noon and 2pm – 4pm. These courses are free of charge and it only takes two hours to learn the skills that may someday save a life. Every week in Scotland, 70 people suffer cardiac arrest and more than 3,500 people per year are treated by the Ambulance Service – only one in 20 people will survive. Without resuscitation, cardiac arrest is always fatal – but performing CPR could double that person’s chance of survival. Even if you have previously attended a course, feel free to come along for a refresher.
