During the last century several changes in the Mediterranean have been
documented. Trends in the temperature (T) and salinity (S) of the intermediate and
deep waters have been observed. Moreover sudden changes in the deep water
formation sites in the Eastern Mediterranean have been documented between 1987-
1995 that affected the DW of the entire eastern Mediterranean.
