DAA105 – Introduction to Billing and Coding (80 Clock Hours – 7.0 Quarter Credit Hours)<br />

- Prerequisites: None<br />

- The course provides an introduction to basics of dental insurance and dental documentation in electronic<br />

health records. It introduces and provides the proper recording guidelines for the CDT-2015, ICD-10-<br />

CM, and ICD-10-PCS diagnostic coding systems. Finally, it continues with a discussion of paper and<br />

electronic insurance claim forms and how to initiate the claims process.<br />

DAA106 – Accounts Receivable and Claims Management (80 Clock Hours – 7.0 Quarter Credit Hours)<br />

- Prerequisites: None<br />

- Description: The course introduces and provides the proper recording guidelines for the CPT and CDT-<br />

2015 procedural coding system. It continues with a review of how to properly receive insurance<br />

payments, and how to process rejected claims. Finally, it introduces various office and insurance<br />

collections strategies to help reduce outstanding accounts receivable by increasing rate of payment for<br />

services.<br />

DAA107 – Financial and Practice Management (80 Clock Hours – 7.0 Quarter Credit Hours)<br />

- Prerequisites: None<br />

- Description: The course provides an introduction to banking services and procedures. It also addresses<br />

the basics of human resources and marketing in a private dental office. The course continues with an<br />

overview of financial and practice management. Finally, it provides students with exposure to basic<br />

clinical skills such as recording vital signs and assisting with a medical emergency to maximize their<br />

ability to assist in the office as needed.<br />

MOS101 – Microsoft Office Fundamentals (40 Clock Hours / 4.0 Quarter Credit Hours)<br />

- Prerequisites: None<br />

- Description: The course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of Microsoft Office products.<br />

Students will learn and perform basic techniques in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. This<br />

course is delivered via distance education. Computer and Internet Access are required to complete this<br />

course.<br />

DAA201 – Dental Administrative Externship (180 Clock Hours / 6.0 Quarter Credit Hours)<br />

- Prerequisites: DAA101, DAA102, DAA103, DAA104, DAA105, DAA106, DAA107, and MOS101<br />

- Description: The externship is designed to give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of<br />

administrative dental assisting, dental billing, scheduling, and practice management under the<br />

supervision of a dental office supervisor. Each extern will work in one or more dental facilities during<br />

their externship.<br />
